Going to put fluro leaders on my rods just to see if it makes a difference after years of leadcore. Looking at possibly using 20lb iq. What's the best knot to connect the fluro leader and my mainline (got sbx braid on 1 set of rods and synchro xt on the other). Any other fluro line i could use instead of 20lb iq?

IQ is a hooklink fluoro, so an expensive way to do it. Have a look at Seaguar ace hard fluorocarbon. Available in 50m spools pretty cheap. Are you using it in long lengths like a shock leader, or just the last metre or so (like you would with leadcore?) Back to back grinner would be my choice of knot on the mono. For braid I'd use a Mahin knot.

To be honest I'd argue that 18 inches is hardly worth the effort. Flouro sinks due to its cumulative weight, 18inches is not enough to really have an effect. You'd be better off with a longer flouro leader IMO. Any reason you think leadcore isn't working ?

Yes I agree but I don't see the benefit of 18inches of flouro, might as well fish mono straight through.

It's going to be pinned down with the odd blob of putty as well. So it'll be on the bottom, maybe 24”. Just want to see if i makes a difference to leadcore as when fishing clear lakes i feel leadcore stands out a bit.

I've used the avid outline fluoro leader. Great stuff and invisible from our view of it in the water. I never noticed much of a difference in catch rates over the years. I switched it on/off at times with fox submerge.

I would go for 4 foot of fluro and tie it with an Albright know, with braid the knot will be tiny
Two fluros that stand out for me having tried a few. 19 lb fox illusion with a coloured tint which I have found superb and Segaur in 25lb is a close second.
Fluro blows mono away for abrasion resistance and it sinks brilliant

What Scozza said but my preference is the Berkley big game fluoro leader in 20 and 25lb also use 40 and 45lb abroad in snaggy situations, it's never let me down

I use fox illusion khaki as a leader, back up to back grinner. I find 2 turns on the Fluoro loop and 5 for the mono and wet to tighten down. When done right that knots not snapping for toffee

Gardner Mirage is perfect for this. It's what I use. They also sell it in 100m spools so it'll last you ages.
