I've got the chance to jump onto a trip for a big fish water in France beginning 23 March 2024.

Never been this early before, just wondered what other peoples experiences were at this time in France?

Go for it. Never done a march trip but been the first week of April a few times, blanked and had good weeks. Couple of years ago it was -6 snowing and blowing a hoolie but I had a shedload.

Went in March a few years ago in the champagne region

Cold and it snowed the lake flooded and had to move to higher ground twice but I caught a fish 👍

Been a couple of times to the champagne as well in march, and well, meh. It wasn't bad, but i guess on those trips i caught about 1/3 of what i would later in the year on the same waters. But, nice and quiet, sometimes some snow, freaking cold at night, but still more than worth it.

Go... Not easy to get on a decent big fish water now.... You have to book years in advance when maybe half of big fish will be dead already (without even letting people know) and nobody will give you your money back... It is gonna be hard probably as this winter could be cold but always a chance of a good one... If one or two big fish is your goal...

Very weather dependent. I've known it be very hot and dry. I've known it be very wet. I've known it be snowing and the lakes covered in ice. You pays your money, you takes your choice.

As Said, can be very cold but also very productive..
I always try and go late March/Early April every year, fish are at bigger weights .
I also go late October/Early November every year, for similar reasons .

impossible to know France is a bloody big place and weather conditions like in the uk can very a lot between north and south for a start and I have fished in late March/early april quite a few times got caught out one year when with the north east winds it was minus 16 and lines froze in the margins
other times it was just jumper weather and big girls were on the munch

We always used to go 1st/2nd week of April and one year in the early 0's we got caught out, -temps all week, frozen in the margins and snow! I wonder if that was the same year as you Gerry...hmm
Another year it was 6 deg all week but a north easterly...brrr...but on the whole other years it was lovely and warm, bit of a lottery.
