Just bought a caddy maxi.
What can be done aftermarket to make it more secure.
Was thinking of getting internal gates installed but unsure if it's overkill and will take up too much room.
What are hook locks and deadlocks like? Are they actually effective of keeping out thieves?
Immobilisers?

I've got absolutely zero security on mine, and picked a black van with a few addons to make it look as 'non tradesman' as possible. I'd rather they popped a lock or smashed a window than took a circular saw to the roof because you've spent a fortune on deadlocks and bulkheads.
In my previous line of work, I worked with a lot of criminals. When I asked what made them pick which house/van to rob, they said it was level of security. The common theme was if you have spent hundreds on security, chances are you have something of a higher value worth protecting. Would you spend £100 on an alarm to protect a £80 lawmower?
They just laugh at camera systems, as a £5 balaclava completely defeats the object of a multi hundred pound camera system. Round my way, lots of houses have been done by the same fella. What have they got to go on? **** all. A jacket with a Nike tick, worn by hundreds of kids round here.
Too many sausages putting cringey "carp hunter" stickers on their vans then wondering they their sheds are getting turned over. Used your noodle! Google Earth is a burglars gift, as are those ****y stickers. I have met people who would employ crackheads to turn over peoples sheds and give them exact details on where in the back garden the items are, all because they have been followed home, or they've seen a transit on the drive with a £2 fish sticker

Absolutely this! Carp stickers on your car or van and you are pretty much advertising you have gear. My local club pit insists on putting a club sticker in your car window so the bailiff can see your car is a memebers car in the carp park! I just put mine on when in the car park and take it off when out and about but i see loads of people with them stuck firmly on their window.
Again like you said.... you can put the best locks/deadlocks on your van and theyll just cut a hole in the side or roof, they do this stuff in broad daylight too, they literally dont care.
Just make your van as uncarpy and un tradesman like as possible and do not leave anything in it overnight! I would not dream of leaving my gear in my motor.

The best security is to leave nothing in it and leave the back doors open.

Used to do exactly this when fishing a park lake with an open access car park. No idea if anyone ever had a look. Nothing ever went missing. All I left in it was a few bits in the front that had no value and water and a spare tire in the back. Rather let someone open and close the door than cause damage and take nothing!

The less people that see you loading/unloading your tackle, the longer you will keep it.
Never store tackle in the van, or leave overnight.

I'm thinking of leaving the barrow, bedchair, chair, bivvy and few other bits in there tbh. Want to just remove rucksack rod bag and food/bait. That's why I was thinking the steel gates might be a good idea
A mate of mine was followed home from a lake once,what made it worse it was by two lads that were fishing the same complex.They had been talking to him the day before and asking when he was leaving,he obviously thought they wanted to move into his swim.Its not good when so called fellow anglers are out to nick your gear
Never stop at a garage or shop for supplies on the way to the lake.

Unfortunately true, don't let anyone you don't trust see it if possible. Lost all my gear once (ever) after unloading into the garage. A builder a few doors down watched me unload it and asked me if I had caught, as an innocent 20 or so year old I spoke to him. Garage door ripped off and gear gone 48 hours later. Wasn't even worth a fortune at the time, but meant a lot to me after years of building it up. Sad world.

If I ever sell any of my stuff I always make sure it's out of the garage pre collectio or meet elsewhere. Too many scum bags about and I'd never leave stuff in my car where people can see. Isn't worth it

I have a Transit, my gear is never left in there. I have a secured lock up that i use to store my gear in. I never load my van the night before going fishing either too much of risk imo.

As before, I have a berlingo, I put the front seat down when fishing so people can see there's nothing in the back

i know a builder/joiner who has a plain white sprinter all kitted out with his kit,BUT all he has is 2 stickers on the front doors and bonnet is a grain supplies company. who going to nick some sacks of grain, this was over 10 years ago mind ,quite clever i thought.
