Going to rig up a dedicated cat rod as a fourth rod so need the strongest 20lb mono but all the mono i use for my carp fishing ie syncro xt, gr60 only go up to 18lb. I would use braid but braid is banned. Will mainly use the rod when i go to france and cats run to over 120lb.

As with all line choice. Ignore the BS. It is BS from most companies.
20lb Gardner Hydro Tuff is 0.40, as is 15lb GR60 (no wonder everyone used to marvel at its strength per lb) both would be a good bet.
Touchdown in 20lb is 0.43, one of my favourite lines if you're not casting at range. Korda Carp Line is cheap and cheerful and strong at .43.

Cheers, had a look at the test in tackle box and pro clear is a clear winner but dont think they make it anymore. Not sure why as it was a brilliant line.
20lb Maxima would be my choice tough as old boots fished it on the rivers for years never let me down.

I think you need far stronger line than 20lb mono if you are fishing waters with cats to 120lb.
I've just put this on to 3 spools for my UK cat fishing this year having been snapped on 30lb Daiwa hyper sensor (not standard sensor line) last year by the cats in one of my club waters that run to about 55lb.

Berkley Big Game green in 25lb.
Not that many tackle shops actually do it anymore, certainly not in 25lb. It's so cheap on eBay, get yourself a spool of 20lb and 25lb and see which you prefer.
When I needed real brute strength mono, fishing Theale Lagoon. Fishing three rods on one spot more than half a mile out. All in a stupidly weedy savage big pit (everything landed from the boat). I had 50 yards of 20lb Big Game on the end of 600m of braid. When the zebra mussels got lifted up much higher in the water by the weed, I was using green 25lb Big Game. It's absolutely bombproof.

I've been using Korda Subline 20lb for a few years now. In 2021 I was in France catching 100lb+ moggies using this line with no issues whatsoever. It is actually 0.43mm, which I believe breaks far higher than the 20lb rating. I dont need to cast far, so for me, this line is ideal.

I would agree with Gerry. Daiwa Sensor is cheap as chips, strong as anything, IMO, having used the 30lb version here in the UK for cats to 52lbs.
I don't do a lot of catfish fishing, so for me it made little sense spooling more expensive stuff for the sake of it.

Green Big Game 25lb is .48. The Korda sounds great, I've never seen that at .43. The original Bullet 20lb was good, the .42 one. I bet that 50lb Sensor is around the same as the Big Game at around .48 or .50.
As previously mentioned by others that is what really matters. Not what the breaking strain is rated as. That sort of mono sinks like an absolute brick once filled with water too.
