just putting things into perspective I started Carp fishing proper in 1962/3 season
and obviously read god knows how many articles and seen trophy pics sady over the years things went from really informative interesting reads to the sickening vomit inducing bile we get today
( the fish I had been dreaming of graced my net vomit )
anyway sorry rant over
HOW refreshing at last and is possibly the BEST CARP FISHING article
called OFF THE RADAR
I have ever read by Sam Jefferys its in BG Carp magazine and bonus its one of the FREE mags down load I posted a linky poo too get it ........... here it is again if you missed it

I rarely use the forum these days, but it's nice to see it still going, I learnt alot on here years ago and met some real good guys who helped me in my early days...
I wrote that article a few years back now, however it's nice to see old Rob Maylin still going for it, finding a way of getting carp literature out there but adapting to the times..it's a great shame to have lost some of those mags we all grew up on, Big Carp mag was loved by many...
A lot has happened since I wrote that article, we've recently had our first child and work is full on, but but my hunger and love for carp fishing is as strong as ever, but as our lives change, often so too does our angling...At some stage I'll put together another article and bring it all upto date!
I know you are also on your own journey right now, I've followed your incredible strength and positive mental attitude with great admiration towards the health issues you've so amazingly taken on, and I want to say mate you are a true inspiration and a wonderful example of keeping upbeat and taking on whatever life throws at us...I hope one day soon we'll get the rods out together Gerry 👍

Sam, the only journey he should be going on, is to catch a probable British record barbel from the river Thames. He knows where one lives, that no one else really knows about. He's known for a good while now. He just needs to go and catch it when everything is cool. I see some new car stuff recently, he must be planning now.

Hi Sam
congratulations on becoming a dad ! great news I think you should not do another article dont waste the material ?
you should jump straight to a book make you mark ? something for your kids to look back my dad wrote that book when I was a child !
with your brilliant no bullshine writing skills and the many wonderful proper carp pictures your adventures and journey is a unique in variety
and would make any one in angling happy reading it and make a few bob too PLEASE do a book !
we had the best of it with our angling starting off being dragged down the bank as kids by fishing mad fathers lol
yes I am hoping my fishing journey isnt over yet I have everything planned in my head got all the gear retail therapy over the 2 years of constant chemo and was house bound for over a year in and out of hospital every few weeks apparently I can never stop chemo but it will get reduced to maybe monthly instead of weekly
RETAIL THERAPY is great lol all my gear is changed even my car !
I got a free honorary lifetime ticket for one of the best Coln valley clubs and a good mate recently retired is a member and in the next 2 or 3 weeks he is driving up here to do a 48 hour session on a lake with me see how I get on and if my back can handle it
and then I will go after that big Barbel I bought some nice Harrison Barbel rods especially to christen fishing for that fish

but your too busy with your amazing empire !
and then you bugger off to Brazil every few weeks ? god know how many miles you travel in a year when have you got time to go catch a NEW record River carp ?
I have been exceptionally lucky in my life fishing with top people and becoming friends with truly lovely anglers like you 2 for instance
a real privilege !

this little beauty is swimming in the thames very close to me too I could have gone after that fish back in 2020 just before I got ill

I am not frustrated at all that you have not gone yet Gerry, you have had slightly more pressing things to deal with. I gave you some inspiration, something to think about a little bit when things were rubbish is all. How you use that information, is completely up to you mate. You will keep it a secret. Go and catch it when things are better, Sam has already told you he will go take your photos. Just because you know the stretch where it lives, means absolutely nothing really. There are probably five or so barbel in many miles of river. They move throughout it too.They were all old 5 years ago. You need to get well soon. If you catch that fish, you will have massively earned it. You are not going to get numerous bites like on the Trent.

Hang on in there Gerry. I've just finished my treatment for the Big C and started fishing again this week. It felt fantastic even though I only had two bream.
