Wasn't expecting to be able to get out fishing next weekend but the opportunity has arisen and I'm after some suggestions on day ticket fisheries within an hours drive from Brighton area.
Ideally somewhere with a decent chance of at least a 20, possibly a 30.

Is Thorpe Lea any good? Always been put off by you having to pre-book swims and having never been have no idea where on the lake I might want to fish.

Didn't think you pre-booked swims at Thorpe Lea. To answer your question, in my opinion no it's not good. There are a lot of pegs very close together and people casting over each other is not uncommon. There is a large stock of fish that appear to have come on well since they were originally stocked from Drayton when they were in a mess. If you fish mid week it may be fine but I'm sure you can find somewhere a bit better (just my opinion noting I have a soft spot for the venue as is where I started carp fishing and caught my 1st 20lber)

Farlows could be an option, though the M25 is very close.
I fished at Thorpe Lea once, years ago - midweek and it wasn't busy. Caught loads of fish, could barely keep a rod in the water, loads of 20's, but several were battered. I'd personally not go back.

I thought they had quite a big fish kill a few years back,I think quite a few of the Drayton fish died

May well be the case. Moved away from the area a long time ago and not followed the place that closely, just been hearing snippets. The fish I have seen pics of are definitely in better condition than the ones I used to be catching from there
