Hi guys ,
What's your preferred baiting tool ? I use a spomb , mainly in large or midi x . I think they're great but I get frustrated with them not opening .
Some seem better than others but I just wondered what other people are using and if there is anything better available now ?
Iv used the fox spombs but found they were worse for not opening

I mainly use the Nash dot spod, only rarely fails to open. But may not have the payload for you. They feel a bit fragile but mines been OK for a couple of years, though I don't use it to the same extent as some do.

I like the dot spod but two have give up in under 6 months. Just switched to an alien spod so hoping they'll be better

Wolf x spod..opens 99.9% of the time..every time. Although I do think you lose a couple of wraps vs a spomb.

That was my issue with them very accurate and opened well. Retrieve I found poor though.
And Not the best at extreme range.
I'm currently spombing anything from 110-160 yards so Need it to be able to take abuse

Is the wolf x spod a bit heavier ? Is the is reason they aren't great at extreme range ?
I use a dot spod, odd occasion it doesn't open but most of the time it's spot on

The Wolf x is 65g v 42g on a midi x spomb..as mentioned it also had a flat nose. You can fill it to the brim which helps a bit. I was fishing at 26 wraps with 1 a couple of weeks ago using a 35lb straight thru braid but I know I could hit 28 with a spomb on the same set up, although I was getting a bit sick of spombs not opening which they always seem to do when you get it right on your spot

I use the Midi or large Spomb myself.
I found the not opening became more of a problem when I started using braid and hitting the clip. A 'lob cast' cures the problem so it is dropping down rather than going flat if that makes sense.

I agree the solution is to hit the clip high and let the spomb drop in vertically if possible. The opposite to gently laying a spod on the surface with minimal noise.

I always have to flip the clip on a spomb to stop it opening on the cast..which seems to cause the non opening issue. Its probably my technique more then anything as i'm not a great caster!
Completely agree. It's a different technique needed to get it to open every time . It almost needs to crash in a bit
