J-braid 8-strand gets recommended a lot on here from Daiwa, got some myself but yet to spool it up.

But to be honest I've tried cheap braid and much prefer the J8 Diawa braid, it behaves much better and I get less wind knots.

Never had a problem with this stuff, have it on 3 reels and all working fine.

Been using 8 Strand J braid for a coupleof years with a 30lb Armakorda leader.
It's great, never had a problem and would definitely recommend.

Depends on how far you need to cast. J braid as mentioned here is good if you need long distance but if your just fishing upto 110 yards then i just use a thicker 0,40mm braid straight through as its just easier to deal with doesnt need wetting and just generally behaves better.
Edit: the link in post 4 looks interesting, wont be as smooth as the j braid however will do nearly the same job, ill try some of that, thanks

I use 0.36mm diameter Powerpro, have done for over 20 years and it is still the best. Ignore breaking strains, buy it by diameter. Someone mentioned J braid. Avoid! I was given a spool of that to review and found it very prone to bedding in on the spool, creating a risk crack offs. It behaves better on a baitcasting reel, but not on a fixed spool. Search on YouTube for reviews and you'll soon find out how bad it is! I wouldn't touch cheaper braids either, they're cheap for a reason.

As someone who only uses braid on my marker rod, is there much benefit in using a "thickish" braid over say a 12lb mono and braid leader on a spod rod?

I've had the same trouble with the J Braid. I had to bin it in the end. Nothing worse than a couple of windknots to completely ruin your casting confidence.

Upto 100yrds then 50Lbs Whiplash straight through. Tough as old boots, difficult to crack off with, if you mistime the cast. Don't overfill the spool and wet before casting. Do this and wind knots and frap ups are very rare. Over 100yrds 20lbs Whiplash with a 50lbs Whiplash leader.
Switched to J braid from whiplash. J braid is far better.

In what way? Casts further? Stronger?
What lb in both are you comparing?
I use 30lb powerpro. With a shock leader. I would go down to 20lb when I finally need to change it but that's a long way off

whiplash 35LB straight through as long as kept wet never had any issues
