Anyone know of any good roof boxes to carry gear? I have seen some for rods only but I'm looking for the best available for getting as much in as poss

just get the biggest cheapest you can find.

Plus 1 for the Kamei husky, brought one last summer, great bit of kit, can fit loads in and has decent locks as well
Kamei husky also if you get the narrow one you can use it alongside a bike or 2 if you need to and it easily fits a 6 rod holdall

Same one I've got which was brilliant when we had 1 car.
I've been thinking of selling it but I think I'll prob keep incase I need it.
I will sell the roof bars tho as they don't fit my current car.

for years I used my THULE ALPINE roof box it takes obviously all my rods but sooo much more my 907 gaz bottle all my clothes my stoves Minn Kota engine tons of stuff people just think its rods they aint got a scooby lol AND A LOT CHEAPER ON FUEL being very small wind profile

I have had a Thule roof box for years. Fits 2 rod holdalls in it and unhooking mats as well. Great bit of kit. Can't comment on the ones previously mentioned but if you don't have a van and need space then a roof box which can take your rod holdall/s is a god send. A few years ago we took a family trip to France for a month with 2 adults and 1 child (teenager) in a vauxhall Insignia. We managed to take camping kit for 3, rods, boat, engine, bait, tackle, toys, clothes, freezer box, food etc in the car and roof box. Was a bit of a squeeze but managed it. The roof box made all the difference. Edit. Just saw Gerry's post, same box as mine, the Alpine one, holds a lot of kit!

I use a roof rack on my Audi Q5. I get my Frontier XD and rods on there albeit they are bungeed down using about 15 clips but they are solid. Your not restricted then to what you can fit in a box. It does mean that I don't travel over 55 but it works for me.

Again Kamei 510 ...huge capacity and very well made. Only issue is finding somewhere to store it.

Just remember lads, roof boxes have a weight limit, an overweight roof box can make a big difference to the way a car handles. I always put bulky lightweight stuff in mine and the heavy stuff inside with the seats down, I would never carry the bait in a roof box, I've seen anglers turn up in France with all their bait for the week in a roof box, then much lighter stuff inside the vehicle, it makes the vehicle so unstable.
I have one of the Thule boxes. With it being narrow, I tie two bivvies to the roof also. A Mondeo estate easily then big enough for two going to France for a week
