I'm looking at getting a tempest bivvy but don't have the funds to buy a brand spanking new one so will be looking at the second hand market.

Obviously there are a few variants out there now. V2, advanced, aquatexx EV etc.

I know the V2 the older generation but is anyone out there able to explain the differences and if the newer models are that much better than the older V2.

Depends on what you want from it, but for my money the nylon 100T brolly is the sweet spot in the range. If you want to go light you can use it as is, if you want more space then you can add the social cap extension.

I don't go in for all the doors, groundsheets, little hats or wraps but all available if you are.

Vents in the back, decent headroom, lightweight, quick up and down and go for a good price 2nd hand.

The V2 is aquatexx and slightly larger than the T100 size if size is an issue (both wider and deeper). The difference between aquatexx and the ev is minimal as far as I can tell. I have a t100 advanced with the original aquatexx and a brolly advanced in aquatexx ev. Different colour but essentially the same.

Older V2, you might struggle for accessories with the 100 advanced being a different size.

the tempests look to be about £300 ish on eBay second hand. You can get a new fox frontier for £400. Don't have one but reviews seem very positive. You can also pick up a Nash titan t1 Mk2 for close to £400 as well. Might be worth a look depending on budget.

I thought the v2 was the same size as the 100. They use same spares

The new wraps and caps and ground sheets all fit the V2 brolly.

ive given up on keeping tabs on the Tempest range .... There seems to be 100s of variants and different accessories in a very short space of time.

v2 is slightly wider than the advanced. I have the 100 advanced and a big bed is a squeeze. I never use the extra ventilation panels that the 100 model has over the v2 so if you can pick up a mint v2 at a good price that would be something I would consider. The accessories are model specific so be careful when buying them.

Thats quite a bit heavier and its bigger as well. Nothing wrong with the v2, used the xl version for years and its a great bivvy.

I have a tempest air (Aquatexx) with a custom army andy front, groundsheet, poles, pegs plus a skull cap on classified £120 has to be a bargain and if you do a seach youll see how highly I rate the air only selling as I have two

To give you some comparison against other models Ive also got a v1 full size tempest use if its gonna rain and a tempest XL that I use for session fishing to be honest having all 3 variants is overkill but the air is the one I use the most of the 3

How tall are you mate?
Do you sit on your bed chair or with a bed chair buddy?
These things are really important.
Reason being. If you are over 6ft and like to sit on a fairly high bed chair your head will likely touch the roof on the Tempest 100. You will therefore want to look at the Tempest 100t
If you fish in the winter i would definitely recommend the aquatexx version as the nylon version can feel cold but conversely, cooler in summer.
You definitely want a skull cap as this gives you a peak to stop rain ingress. It also stops condensation drip and helps insulate. Or you could get the skull cap wrap which would be even better but it takes a bit longer to set up and pack up as you have to remove it, whereas the standard skull cap you can leave inplace
