Visited a tack shop with my daughter who loves horse riding. Noticed a lot of feed products which may be useful in angling, especially due to their amino acid profiles.

Apart from the obvious in terms of molasses's, has anyone used any specific types of feed like layers pellets or supplements in mixes?

TIA

I've used things like Derby Mash, Groats, Flaked Maize and Rock Salt Horselicks all from Horse suppliers and animal feed stores. Depends on the time of year and what is in the lake or river where I'm fishing. On a few occasions I got Breamed out using such things and found Pigeon feed or simple Maize to be better.

I got a 5ltr bucket of layers chicken feed pellets for £8.99 off Amazon a few weeks back ideal just for pva bags or even prebaiting with my other pellets of various sizes and other bait I've got to,also got 2 x 2.5 kg bags of vitalin not cost me nothing as my work give us coins to convert via an app for walking so used the coins to boost my bait storage up

I have had some very good results with baits containing products from a company called Foran Equine. The one I really liked was called Chevinal and was a Molasses/honey base with added vitamins and amino acids. The other one had higher quantities of amino acids/peptides derived from hydrolysed protein but it looks like they don't sell it under the same name anymore but their pre fuel liquid looks similar.

I'm sure other companies sell similar products.

Codlivine was another good base mix and groundbait addition, especially for Tench

Equivite, a horse feed supplement, goodness knows how many bird foods, either as your particle mix, or ground down in base mixes. Layers mash is a reasonable base for spod mixes (use the one without Verm-x), oat groats.

I'm sure Bailey's Number 1 was used in a number of proprietary base mixes as was/is Lamlac.

Basically the list is endless of what you can use from there.

Garlic Horse supplements are apparently very good. Used in the Equine industry to keep away parasites and increase appetite.

While Verm-X is a natural product and won't do any harm, I didn't think the pellets with it were as effective or attractive.

Just found an ingredients list for Verm-x, and looking at it, there should be nothing that puts the fish off, in fact there are some pretty good attractors: Pellets

Sunflower oil, seaweed meal, allium sativum (garlic), mentha piperita (peppermint), thymus vulgaris (common thyme), ulmus fulva (slippery elm), galium Aparine (cleavers), cinnamomum zeylanicum (cinnamon), picrasma excelsa (quassia), foeniculum vulgare (fennel), urtica dioica (nettle), capsicum minimum (cayenne).

It may be the fish simply found it an overload?

I have no explanation as to why I didn't catch as much over it.

I used to use a horsey liquid called red cell.
Iirc it came in a large 3.2 litre bottle and had lots of good stuff in, similar to ambio.
Gastric mucosa, spleen extract, great vitamin profile. The % content was very impressive.
I think it got compromised when BSE kicked off.
Are you sure?
