Anyone know what will happen to the stock during this operation..
There's a lot of wildlife on the canal,..I understand the works are being done by Cormac,who have a appalling reputation in the area..,Cormac, do roads normally not waterways ,and as said ,a poor reputation in this part of the world..
Hope it goes OK,....or is it being done to allow lots and lots of new houses to be built on the low lying areas in the future..?

At least it's not just us who have nothing but bad experiences with cormac, I work for the council this side of the water and the couple times we have had to work along side them (had to do a couple jobs along the river) they have been awful, glad I work for this council not them lol

You know it mate...
Can you imagine the complete devastation that they could do to that canal ,(a lot of carpforum regulars won't know about Cormac,but down this way they don't have the best shall I say repulsion,repaired potholes become open cast mines)...
I'm trying to find out what will happen to the excellent stock in the canal ,so if I find out I'll post it up...

Is it canal and rivers trust in charge? From what I've seen when they have the grand Union dredged it's to keep it clear for navigation. They tend to move the fish to the next lock section and do one section at a time. All in all a tidy operation.
Fingers crossed it's the same on the bude canal.

Yeah please do mate I'd be interested aswell be such a shame to damage or hurt the stock I love bude canal fishing

That would be great if they do that but trust me cormac doesn't have the reputation for doing things the right way here

OK gentlemen I've done some more research..
Some things I didn't know,and I've fished it on and off for over 40 year..
Corserv are the people doing the works,a branch of Cormac,Cormac is really Cornwall Council in all but name..
The canal is apparently owned by The Bude Canal Trust and has a lot to do do with the aqueduct,walks and so on ..
The canal is really in parts a canalised river ,and is important to flooding relief ,and has been de watered as we saw last year,the works is in three stages..car parks being used to store the dredged debris..
The fish ...I have no idea ,what's happening with them,some proper lovely examples off all species in there..
It's only a short canal compared to others and directly connected to the sea front..
I'm local,but not Bude,so really need a Bude boy to tell us more,my fishing g buddy currently is in Thailand ,fishing,and he's a member of the canal,and doesn't know either..

I've stayed in Bude a couple of.times and walked the canal early mornings as a change from the beach occasionally. It's a nice spot, hope they do it justice.

It's somewhere I will probably never fish or visit but as a canal enthusiast I hope they sort it out properly and the fish are safe,a canal by me had to be drained around 2 miles plus between locks to fix canal bank walls and it's never been the same since,had some lovely fish sound 15 years ago till I moved it had a couple of 30's in there apparently,fished it for over 40 years as well.

My cousin, who lives nr Bude,Stratton..has contacted me as I asked them if they knew anything..
Reply from them is. .flood alivation to address the low water levels and potential future run off issues from the built on and further builds on the Oasis area which runs into the river itself. ...
Ie ,it's as above but addressing the run off when the next phases of housing ..
Time will tell.. we shall see..
