Want to get myself a new set of reels for my scopes. Currently have Daiwa theory 4000 sp on them but now have a 3rd rod and can't get another plus fancy a bigger spool as i always use fluro. Had a look around and have seen these reels. There's very few reviews that i can find on them and my local ad typically doesn't have any in stock. So just seeing if anyone has used them and let me know what they're like. Have played with the ci4 5500 xtc but the quick drag is just too quick for my liking.

When I was looking at a reel upgrade I also considered the Whisker for my scopes. When I did a side by side comparison of them in person I was surprised by how little difference in size there was between it and the Basia SLD. In the end went with the SLD, just sang to me more, but that's very personal.

Have taken the punt and ordered a couple during the boxing day sales, got them down to £230 each. If i don't like them i'll send them back.

They are all I really use these days. Such a capable reel and nice and compact. Had mine since they were released and can't see me swapping for anything else right now. The drag is pretty quick, clue is in the name!
I thought these felt and looked cheap compared to the castizm qda

Looks are an individual thing, all the ultralite weight reels feel cheap as I think a bit of weight adds a feeling of solidity but it's probably an illusion.

It was mainly the folding handle part I didn't like,it looks like it was a later after thought to chuck it on.They don't feel as smooth as the castizms either imo

I didn't notice any difference in smoothness personally but the whisker has a lighter weight rotor. As I've said on here before I had four castizm's and replaced them with emcast 25'a and in use couldn't feel any difference.
Most manufacturers seem to be trying to produce lighter angling products not just carp specific either. In September I managed to break my salt water fly rod which I had owned since the late eighties and hadn't really looked at anything else as I don't do that much fly fishing but looked for a replacement and things have moved on massively in that time and the new rod is lighter with higher quality blank and fittings and performs better at any distance and casts effortlessly. The down side is my original reel which is still in great condition is to heavy and doesn't balance well on the rod so I looked at replacing it with the same brand and they still make an almost identical reel but it's still heavier than most other brands of same size rating at 8.5 Oz compared to 5.5oz. speaking to the sales guy and reading reviews the lighter reels seems just as robust as the coating technology has moved on make the new reel more corrosion resistant and drag material has made the drag lighter and more compact helping to reduce weight further. Thing is when I pick the reel up it is so much lighter in my mind it doesn't have that feeling of solidity but I will have to go for it to balance the outfit.
