A bit over the top for an single overnighter perhaps,, however for a base camp might prove useful, main unit outside, piped warm air where you want it, drying wet clothes etc. I have one on my boat, its economical, very efficient and ultimately safe and controllable.

have you never fished anywhere that has a small lodge/building to cook in, store food etc, it can be quite pleasant.
I don't recall saying every swim should have one, but have never the less learnt much from some of the answers.
It warms using hot air, clearly not needed here as alternative sources are plentiful.

My bivvy is my basecamp.
If I go stalking round the lake I leave the bivvy set up.
I cook just outside the basecamp bivvy door...

no, I have one installed on my boat, the small drip fed diesel burner exhaust is piped separate from the actual heating side, mine does not smoke at all,a fan blows hot air out of [on my version] four outlets which are piped to separate areas of the boat,galley,wheelhouse,and the other two on movable eyeballs similar to that in a car, great for keeping windows clear when under way,
it has its own control unit which can be operated remotely and its own fuel supply so can be used when moored. runs from the boat electrics which are solar charged. apart from looking at the led indicator on the temperature controller, and being warm you hardly know its on.
to be honest it chucks out too much heat for a bivvy, but would be suitable for a small hut/lodge found on some venues..

Surly if a hut on a venue then would make sense just for a log burner cheap one. Diesel does stink.

Just for clarification, the diesel is not in contact with the heated air.
It seems people are thinking they operate similar to those diesel/lpg type heaters often used in garages and warehouses, they are not.

This sounds pretty decent. I'm looking for something for my boat. I didn't know you can get portable hand held ones!
When you say it can be operated remotely, how does that happen? I guess you'd need Wifi somewhere?

I bought a little mini BBQ type thing that I put on floor of bivvy obviously no groundsheet and put a t-light or a bit of oil that burns slowly in it and it gives off some heat,it's well away from anything that can catch fire in my bivvy and closer to entrance than closer to my bedchair.
