Hiya,

I am planning on going for a 24hr on my local water. It's in the middle of nowhere, gated with a padlock. This is my first night session alone, and alone on the lake as I know no one else will be there.

I won't have the car as the wife is gonna drop me off

Does anyone have any advice?

Hi mate I get my brother to drop me off I'm on a lake now been here since Friday till tomorrow what advice do you need

Wow, so I am not crazy! Wife Mrs thinks it will be dangerous being alone for 24hrs by myself when I am actually looking forward to it.

Just wondering if you guys do anything different alone compared to having company?

I've fished middle of no where alone and no buddy I fish the exact same. If it's a relatively safe place. Keep your phone handy, head torch and so on you'll be fine. Or if loved ones are worried then set up a timed conversation for check ins. May seem daft to some but you're around water alone and no one there only takes one slip. So tell them to check in every now and then.

I fish overnighters in a city center venue on my own. Was a bit twitchy for the first few nights but have never had any trouble I think most people are just oblivious to me being there. I just stay alert, keep the front of the bivy open and position it so that there is only one real approach to my rods/front of bivy. Always take off a barrow handle so no one can wheel it away and pop the handle to the side of my bed just incase anyone comes looking for trouble.

I've fished stretches of canals that take me 30 minutes plus to barrow stuff there and then hardly seen anyone apart from odd dog walkers or people taking shortcuts to and fro to work and I've had no bother I take radios with me newspapers and power banks watch YouTube or take a good book to read,I'm never bored just like to chill out I like my own company.
I don't live with my partner but she thinks I'm mad just for going and she still says it's dangerous but it's not they don't really understand

I've fished my town stretch of canal smack in middle of the town centre never had issues yet I've seen fights and drunks they don't see me as I'm over other side away from public paths but it does put you on edge but as it gets colder the knob heard disappear

I dream of having the entire lake to myself, no music, no smell of skunk,no noisy cretin shouting to his mate 3 swims away,no million lumens headlamps shining all over the damn lake like rednecks searching for gators, no drunken socials starting when the pubs close and the half cut revellers decide to visit their mate down the lake, usually with drum and base announcing their impending arrival long before they get there.
I could go on but I think you get the picture.

Layer up ,keep warm ,and enjoy yourself, you say no other humans will be there,great,that's good ...lucky chap enjoy..

One tip from me, put your rods out in the water, everything else in the tent. if anybody try's to nick them they will need to wade out first which is unlikely, if they are that desperate you will probably here them

Have a can of deep heat spray to hand.

Perfectly legal as you can always claim a bad shoulder.

You guys are going to make the bloke more paranoid!

If it's a private lake, locked gate etc the chances of anyone other than members arriving at night is very slim unless there is a history of trouble.

It's not weird to fish on your own and have the lake to yourself. It's not dangerous. Enjoy it and do not worry.
