RE Fortis Snugpak Fj6

Hi I wonder if you have this coat ?
and if so whats the sizing like I have a few Snugpak shirts and coats but not Fortis ones and the sizes are on the larger size almost a size up

so are the Fortis like this ? and it does not say if its water PROOF either ? it says water repellant ? WTF ? does that mean ?
so whats an honest view of this coat please

Oh and PLEASE NO OTHER SUGGESTIONS I am only interested in this particular coat thanks

I have an FJ6 Gerry and find the sizing to be as you'd expect, if anything it is quite a 'tailored' fit rather than larger but then it works best when just worn over a t shirt. It is ok in a bit of drizzle but if it's proper raining I put a goretex army jacket over the top, it's basically the same outer material as the sleeping bag from what I can tell.

I have this coat unlike the snugpak torrent i have for dog walking and mentioned in another post i found the fortis fj6 true to size.

I have it in a medium which fits me well but as chuffy says it is only water repellant and not waterproof if its raining i use my fortis marine jacket which is also medium over the top of it

at the northern angling show pre covid I wanted a fortis fj6 or fj9,undecided i used the opportunity to try both.
what an absolute shambles sizing wise. no two coats were the same size. I tried a whole variation of jackets in large in the fj6 and fj9....the same style coat was different sizing in green or in camo.
the guy on the stall couldn't believe it either.
he said what can happen with tailoring is when all the templates are cut,you get a variation in size from the top ones of the pile and the bottom ones of the pile due to the thickness of the bundle not beinga true cut from top to bottom....however he said that this shouldn't happen as each coat "should" be cut individually.
however all I know is not one large was the same size as the next one.

I was a confirmed Buffalo or Montane user but tried an FJ6 on a visit to Yateley Angling Centre . Cannot recommend the coat highly enough. It's very warm so far sitting out till late on the river but we haven't had really cold weather as yet , sizing was spot on for me, it's showerproof and breathable. If it's very wet I stick a poncho on. Hand pockets are a good size and well placed. The top chest pocket is pretty useless. Not big enough for a phone.

I hope the XXL will be the right size I once tried a Trakker coat on in XXXL the arms were so tight I could only just get a bare arm in no chance if I had a jumper on think they base there XXXL sizes on china men ut it was a few years ago and hopefuly they have improved

Hi Gerry , can't comment on the water resistant properties of the coat as I haven't had it out in rain yet . As for the sizing i would say it was quite true to size or as mentioned almost tailored fit , either that or I'm packing weight on. Both possible I suppose

Pretty sure the recommendation is not to wear them in persistent rain as it will soak through and screw up the insulation properties.

Like others I've only worn mine in light showers and got out of the rain as soon as I could.

If you want a truly "waterproof" jacket/outfit,, my advice would be don't buy anything a tackle brand sells.

as for warmth fortis snugpak are imo among the best, army poncho over the top if you really have to go out in the downpours.
pvc type waterproofs will make you sweat, and cold sweat ain't going to keep you warm at all.

I have the FS6 jacket and matching salopettes they are very warm and comfy,
when it gets a little "busy" with takes I just lie on top of the bedchair with the suit on instead of getting in the bag.
never been cold, even in winter months.

Can happen when cutting large lays lol not the amount they do. You could cut 300 ply of this fabric and there would or should be less than 0.2 difference. And if done on a cnc they have knife intelligence. Guessing straight knife.

I got one last autumn for my winter piking, v comfortable tailored fit, fair bit longer than the sleeker range, which is nice, decent pockets, and the chest pocket is ideal for your mobile, it's plenty big enough for 90% of smartphones or apple.
It will keep you warm in all but the coldest conditions we get here, especially if your in a bivvy, not so much if on day sessions under a brolly in zero temperatures.
Would I buy again? Yes.

Hi Jerry
I have one in XL my normal size fits fine with hoody undermeath
I like the fact that it packs away small has extra length so keeps the bottom of your back warm
Overall a great lightweight coat used mine in -15 few use ago in Iceland kept me nice and warm
It's not waterproof used mine in light drizzle but no more
