Given the choice would rather fish 2 morning/evening sessions or one overnighter. As I've been given the option of either on regular basis by my other half for my campaign next year.. (river/canal type venue)
At the moment I'm thinking of the two evening /mornings as I think staying light will mean I'll spend more more time finding fish rather then just headings on to my prebaited spots. Plus means I don't have to fork our for new barrow and bedchair.
But can short session be as effective as long get one?

If you can keep the bait trickling in short sessions will be just as effective. During the session just make as little disturbance as possible and all should be well. It's easy to get lazy on overnight sessions

Try both next year to see which is most effective and see when the feeding patterns are. Also have to factor in fuel for your car, dependant on how far you're travelling. My clubs are more than 20 miles away so it's getting on for a tenner a trip.

Used be able to go whenever but with a 2year old a renovation project and a planned ultra marathon not quote that easy. I'm lucky it only about 3 miles from home and on my way to/,/back from work.

If you do your homework and locate the fish you can be more efficient at theses times when the change in conditions often provokes the fish into feeding
As for braders.... I imagine Mrs braders is keen to get you out on the bank as much as possible...

Depends on timing of your overnighter and how that ties in with the water you are fishing. I can only do after work to before work the next day, 6pm until 7am. This means that you catch last light most of the year, but anything you see at 1st light is a bit of a frustration as unless you're lucky you're moving off.
I would prefer 2 early mornings. Get there an hour before light, find them and fish for them for a few ours. Repeat the next day of possible.
This also gets round having to set up a bed and bivvy.
That said, if bite time on the waters you are fishing is 1-3am you'll want to be there for the night.
My advise would be to get as much info as you can on the waters.

I fish dawn until dusk nowadays. I do more than OK versus the time bandits, even on both my syndicate waters. Gave up session fishing over ten years ago, it's been a revelation to do day only. In most instances, I have out fished a lot of the session anglers in terms of hours fished to results achieved. The only exception has been on a water where the fish only seem to feed at night, but then I just fished into dark for a few hours and caught them.

I found the same as you mark , no spod rod no marker rod just 3 rods and a catapult fishing off the barrow . Catch plenty . I do evening's after work Sunday afternoons and the odd full day .
