I got Nitrile Rubber O rings off eBay. You can get 50 for £3.10 and that includes postage.
The fact that Solar sell three for £2.50 is shameful.

Aldi's during their sales occasionally sell a big box of various sizes in diameter and thickness of Silicon "O" rings for just a few pound, Off top of my head, about 18 different sizes and 125 rings in total, these are what I use. Also in the box are small "O" rings and these are ideal for indicators etc.
Before using the Aldi "O" rings I used a piece of bike innertube about an inch square and just cut a hole in it large enough to take the width of the thread on the alarm, and once fitted, just trim off what is portruding out from under the alarm.
Personally, I prefer the innertube method as it is a lot tidier and easier to get the right thickness needed by using a single or double layer to get a tighter fitting but I only use the "O" rings as it is less faffing about and quicker.

Prefer thick Tap washer, hole punched out with a leather punch.
