Only ever owned the original 10k xt's. Been seval models since then and some say most not as good as the original. Logic would surely say they should have got better with each new model as most manufacturers strive to improve their product not make it worse. Some products suffered quality issues when manufacture was outsourced but the high end Shimano's I believe have always been made in Japan so would expect continuous improvement. Seen various models criticised on line but not seen anyone using any of them that has anything but praise for them. So what model have you got and how long have you had it and what do you think of it.

For my primary big pit carp fishing reels I've only ever owned Daiwa - Original Emblem S5000T / X5000A / Tournament S5000T / Tournament S6000T . . .prior to this it was Shimano 8010/5010 baitrunners
S5000Ts got demoted to utility rods (Spod & marker) when I started using X5000As during the late 90s/Early 00's - these got replaced with Tournies mid 00's and I've never used anything else since (other than using a single X5000A as a spod reel - its effectively the pre-cursor to the Diawa Spod) Tournie S6000Ts are long range / France reels only but I now also use the 4th 6000T as a utility on my SMP rod cos I'm a ponce and it matches my 5000Ts
Have been tempted by simbongos in the past (especially your 10k reels) and Basias but to be honest I've never had a problem with workhorse reels and I actually prefer / am used to their quirks . . .yes they may wobble and squeak but they just 'work' and can take abuse with minimal upkeep.
Same goes for small water carping - still have a the original set of Shimano 8010GTs and 5010GTs (and use them for other applications) but use SS2600s in preference as again they are just simple, robust and 'familiar'
Have some more modern Daiwas (Emblem BR25As / Ninja 4000A) that I use for barbel / course fishing which are smooth as silk but they all have line issues IMO and like all reels without an old skool line guard it can get trapped under the spool when not managed properly which is a mild faff
Would have to take something stratospherically amazing to make me change my Tournies - whatever anyone else says! To be fair that would most likely be Technium 10Ks however with a lack of spare parts I'm no longer tempted to take the risk

I've currently got the the 14000 XTC version.
As you say loads of people go on and on about how the latest one is worse than the previous version but logic says that's just not true...
There are small design challenges with some of the models but I wouldn't say any of them are ‘rubbish” reels.
The ones I have at the moment do have an annoying habit of line getting behind the spool but that only ever happens when using wrap sticks. Other than that they are defo the best Technium I've owned, super light weight, amazing line lay, great clutch, line reducers for the spools and they look amazing of course.
I've had the following versions in the past so do have a fairly informed view of these reels, 10000XT, 10000XSA, 12000XTB, 12000XTC & 12000XTB Mgs.
Like I say each model has a something small that you might change but they're all cracking reels.

Serviced a lot of the aero technium xtb's this last couple of years and they're incredibly durable. I see very little dirt and water ingress in these models and even fewer actual issues which always amazes me as a few of my customers are out there 24/7. Of the very few issues I have seen its normally corroded rotor support bearings and occasionally the drive gear bearings but very rarely anything gear or housing related, I'm also impressed with the spare gear pricing as well should this be a requirement as they come in at less than £50 for a complete set of drive and idle gears. Would love a set of the later xtc's as they look fantastic and share the same gearset but they're a bit spicy for my budget unfortunately

I have two sets at the moment the Technium 12000 XTB black mags and the 10000 XSB silver mags. I've owned both sets for about 5 years and I wouldn't say mine get battered with being out every weekend, at best I'm probably out 10-12 times a year. However they see all kinds of weather and they cope with everything I've ever thrown at them and they are super smooth as you would expect from a top end shimano reel.
Very difficult to pick between these two from my viewpoint and they have had some very big catfish on both and managed with ease. I wont be selling these and I've even picked up spares for both in case they ever become difficult to find like the old set of 12000 XTA's which I loved but I had to sell for that very reason.

It's been out in most conditions but I'm not one for fishing in the snow and ice. I'll leave that to you hardcore fellas
I do look after my kit though, it's all packed down fully protected and thoroughly cleaned after each session. Mad not too what gear costs these days.

Cheers all, a mate services and repairs reels, he rates the tec's as the best and has just changed his xtb's for the new xtd's. The used market for a mint set of mgs xtb's price is very high so may go for new xtd's. Just need to shift some kit I don't use and then I will be looking at buying.

These new ones are a lot bigger than the previous models though due to the longer stroke on the spool, the actual body obviously needed to be larger to accommodate this.

I bought them as spares in case any of my 4 main XTBs ever had issues...but the XTBs are great reels and so I had might as well flog my spares as I've never had any issues and they've been out in all weathers 3 to 6 nights a week.
I never changed the XTBs for XTCs when they came out as I had a play with the XTC in Erics @ Farlows and didn't like the look/feel of them, a bit plastic feeling :(

Agree the xtd does look big as you say the body had to be to accomodate the longer stroke plus the spool being 10mm longer not that it bothers me.

Will be Karlos if I can shift the jag neville bits I have in the classifieds. Also have a set of ultegra ci4 14000 xtc that have only done one 48 hour session with boxes, spare spools, reducers etc as new advertised elsewhere.
