Whole stock wiped out due to oxygen crash. I'm amazed we haven't lost more lakes down here. Worrying times.

Very sad to see it happen to any water. I've witnessed big fish kills a few times now and have seen grown men cry.

Have they closed the complex then ...
Cdaa is my club water and Fordwich very local to me .
Im away working last few months so not fished there since jan . I norm prefer stour lake tho as more out the way , is stour and trenly in same boat. .
I can inmagion little born birtch getting it bad 2 . . I fort tbe deep waters of ford and stonar would kept them save ...
Not looking good for fordwich complex tho after the storms and floods the last few years . .
I was down there last jan and all 3 lakes and river was 1 big flood and fish going walkies in river ..
Sure when spoke john a few years back he said he had a stocking program with w******** again be babies tho take good few years to come good agin

The club have put a post out this afternoon saying the EA estimate that possibly up to 90% of the stock of all fish has perished. Absolutely gutted. What a shame.
This is a tragic loss for any club to endure. However a salutary lesson for others. Prepare for the future, or prepare for tragedy.
There are plenty of owners, clubs, etc. preparing for the worst come Monday night.
I've just spent £90 on a gas bottle that should keep my aerators running for about forty hours. Could be an expensive week ahead.

Does that mean that in your view waters with a lot of weed are less susceptible to a sudden oxygen crash night or day?
Is there anything that backs this up, genuinely interested.

I'm certainly no expert, and my experience is largely from larger CV style clear weedy gravel pits. I'm not sure whether it's wind movement across the water or the oxygen generated during the day by the large weed beds, but despite many algae blooms we seem to have been lucky with oxygen crashing and wiping out fish. I guess the weed does it's thing in the daylight and replenishes the oxygen levels?
These waters tend to have patchy silt rather than a thick, permanent layer on the bottom which may help too.
Only anecdotal evidence I know.
