Quite often on my syndicate lake I can find myself fishing at 17-22 ft deep. I normally take a boilie only approach but if I wanted to add particles into the equation do you think it's worth it? If I'm spodding to a spot what's the chances of the particle landing on the spot having drifted 17ft or more down to the bottom?

id be adding some crumb and spodding balls of your mix rather than loose particle.
i did well using this on my sydi in depths of 25ft+

crushed tiger
whole tiger
flake maize
whole maize
hemp
maples
boilie crumb to make it moldable, ball it up and put them in a spomb. breakdown lower in the water column so a tighter spread on the bottoms.

Could bind balls of particles with vitalin and spom out

Same as others. I use vitalin or blended vitalin as a carrier in balls or spomb.

Particles spread out, the smaller, lighter ones spread further out than heavier ones, the more current or undertow, the further the spread 'downstream'.

You could quite easily find yourself fishing a hookbait only approach!

If you want to use particles, mix them in with groundbait. A ball of groundbait will drop straighter than particles, so you can catapult, throw or Spomb balls in.
You might find though a PVA mesh of groundbait on a spod rod is the best way to get your bait down near your hookbait.

It should be fine, there will be a bit of spread, more so if there is a big blow on the water but the heavier particles will fall fairly quickly.
