I've always said I would never use a bait boat... but after seeing one of my less experienced carper mates do really well this on one of our waters since he started using one, I must say I am tempted... he keeps saying I can use his but I have been stubborn so far, but he has started outfishing me probably 3:1 since he started using it.
It's actually a small water but I'm thinking maybe less disturbance with leads crashing in has perhaps helped him...
Has anyone started using one this year?

I feel your pain and sense of missing out......Iv'e not yet succumbed and probably never will but by golly they have become very mainstream and it seems now that every man and his dog uses one... A sad state of affairs imho ....

A lake I was on was like this when boats were first allowed.It is now totally the opposite,the fish seem to spook off the neatly piled baited spots.It could be total coincidence but a few lads stopped dropping bait with the boats and started catching again

Do what your happy with, not telling u what to do but on a few waters I've used 40 bait stringers, 4 x10 baits and done very well in amongst the bait boats, just a case of catching them off guard, good luck, ohh borrow his boat

A venue I fished that allowed boats saw people driving them under the far margin bushes and canopies onto the same inaccessible (by casting) spots and catching nothing, because the fish no longer felt safe there. I caught far more simply by fishing spots that I could cast to, and that the boat brigade were ignoring.

They have their uses. I bought one this year for a specific water I'm doing a bit of a campaign on, not to put baits in otherwise inaccessible places, but more to carry a deeper to speed up my understanding of the lakebed and place baits with pin point accuracy.
Has it improved my catch rate? Definitely not but its cut down the amount of innacurate casts, disturbance and left me with a bit more confidence that I've presented my hookbaits a bit better. If I didn't have it, it wouldn't particularly bother me that much tbh.

But is using a boat not "on your own terms" if you deem it necessary? Fwiw I have one but in the 6or 7 years I've had it, used it maybe 8 times. I'd rather cast ,but sometimes a boat just makes sense

I bought one not so long ago. 1st time I used it a snagged a 44lb mirror. Could I have caught it without the boat? "yes". Does it take anything away from my capture? "hell no". We rely on as a species to move forward with technology and learn from it as we go. Ask any of these "purist" dreamers if they want to go to work on a horse or fish with a garden cane. You can bet they will tell you where to get off. Hypocrites!!
Give me the tech and I'll use it. And I'll laugh at those who fish alongside me that ridicule it wth every capture sticking the images under their blinkered noses. Get one, you won't regret it.

I don't have one anymore, but used one in France and enjoyed it.
I don't really see the difference in using a bait boat to using a baiting pole, only difference is the range you can use them, and no one seems upset about those!
Probably the most gifted angler of our time Terry Hearn, will use one when necessary to catch his target fish.
Have to say I'm quite pleased lots of lakes don't allow them, but that's down to the users as opposed to the equipment.
