Back on the bank next weekend after 4 year break (young kids, don't do it ha)
Gear all well looked after and kept safely however just wondering if there's anything I should consider replacing other than the obvious (line, batteries)?

Hope you enjoy it Jose, don't buy anything apart from as you've said, just get some decent bait and see if you need anything once you've been fishing a few times. Good luck, won't be long before those kids are going with you.

Ah cheers pal, excited to take them one day.
The braid on the spod reel is probably 5 maybe 6 years old. Does it perish at all?
Amazing how 10 minutes in the classified section can convince you to drop £5k on junk you don't need!

I've got braid on my spod/marker that's over 10 years.
I admit it doesn't get loads of use but it's still old. Seems fine
A while back I had 3 or 4 years off due to spending all my time with my kid at skateparks etc. It did feel weird. My atts had rotted in a damp unhooking mat at the back of the garage.
Even my stainless had white mould. But that cleaned up.
Battery on power Porter was knackered so had to get a new one of those.
I've got braid on my spod/marker that's over 10 years.

Looking like a scorcher next weekend so won't be forgetting the sun scream.
Encouraged to hear about the braid, didn't fancy re spooling as it was relatively new before my hiatus!
The lake I'm fishing has spots at 60yds so thankfully nothing too tricky for the first trip back.
Good to see the forum still lively and active! Used to spend hours on here back in the day.

Probably wouldn't hurt to replace the grease in your reels if you're into that, or at least give them a few spots of oil.

Ahhh not a bad shout at all my man. Got so many of those little bottles from Shimano over the years haha finally a chance to use one

I had a 2 year break during Covid. Joined a syndicate last year and went fishing. Both my marker and spod rod were spooled up with 30lb braid which was fine before I took the break. To my embarrassment both the marker and spod braid parted under casting never mind hitting the clip. My advice would be re-spool with new or at least peel of 50/60 yards if you have enough on the spool/s. Being immersed and then left dry for years must affect it. Don't leave to chance!
