Currently fishing a lead clip system but the lake I fish has quite a bit of weed in few swims and sometimes it's so busy you can't avoid them. Would a heli system be a better alternative to the lead clip? And if so can I still fish rigs such as slip D's and other rigs tied with braided hooklinks. I feel like the ability to move the beads around to allow to fish over any bottom is a real bonus but still not sure

I have changed over to helis recently found they cast better than clips
You will lose the lead everytime if you encounter weed I use the the mini helisafe with the red spring which has greater resistance and only dumps when necessary
You can also use the collar to prevent the clip from dumping the lead
An alternative are the TA or Gardner C clips which are cheaper and a lot simpler
As for rigs any hook arrangement can be used and I use a coated hooklength or fluoro 👍

It would depend on how much weed for me, I would only change if I felt it really necessary, imo the leadclip system provides better hooking potential, it's also v easy to set the lead to dump only when you feel necessary...ie with a hooked fish on.

It's caused a few arguments on here, but from personal experience, don't use helicopter set-ups in weed.
Firstly you stand a chance of missing plenty of takes, get funny hookholds, lose fish compared to other set-ups.
I have found that at range, around 120metres, carp can move as much as 30-40metres with only 1 bleep on the buzzer.
In fact in weed I prefer to go to inline leads, which catch up a whole lot less weed than lead clips. I've also found with zipp shaped inline leads I rarely need to drop the lead, but if you are concerned, it is very easy to drop-off an inline lead simply by attaching your Mainline to the same end of the swivel as your hooklink, a tail rubber above it on your mainline to 'pin' the line to the peg or tubing at the top end of the lead.

I completely disagree with this. Have used helis in weed lots recently and haven't had a problem.
I move over from my preferred tubing & lead clip setup when I'm on certain swims on my syndi.

Personally use helicopter or pva bags when around the weed on the lake i fish, but i dont use braided hooklinks with it, i prefer it to be a little stiffer so when it lands it straightens out. Just what works for me, or what i think works for me. The main issue i have with weed is fishing over the top of it i prefer to fish in clear spots amongst it , and try to get good line lay.if your fishing with your main line running through weed beds for a any real length of time your indication will be compromised by this anyway especially as it lifts and drops depending on light levels etc. Its really dependent on the swim for me anyway.
