According to JB´s latest klipp, he states that even if you´re not using a flavour, and just using hydros, there is a maximum inclusion level, otherwise the bait could become repulsive.

What that level is, is not revealed unfortunately. Perhaps the doyens could shed some light on this issue.
At present, i´m using a basemix with no added flavour, just 120ml of 3 different hydros :-

60ml - Calanus
30ml - Liver
30ml - Krill

Anyone used more than 120ml hydros in their mix ?

Is that per kg of dry mix?

As knowledgeable as jb is, I think that's rubbish Tbh. I get over 150ml into 1kg of mix and it works perfectly well

He says thst to justify rebottling tge shrimp hydro from bacarel for a lot more money 😂

Yes, some hydros have a ceiling in which the effectiveness of putting them into a bait preboiling is capped, between 90 and 120ml in a bait before you seriously soften it. But you can then add as much as you want post boiling.

For post boiling I advise splitting a hydro 70/30 with water to make it thinner for soaking into a bait and you can then easily get 200ml per kilo into baits and end up with massively saturated fluffy soft baits tge carp gorge themselves on line you wouldn't believe.

There are some hydros carp would happily go at with a straw.

Watering a good hydro makes me cringe but the thinner it is, the better the saturation. I usually add another thinner liquid, or last option, abit of lake water. Don´t want it to runny, but sticky enough to get a powder coating. Slightly firm but not too mushy, but breaks down with minimal pressure.

Just order some of British aquafeeds latest batches if you want it very thin. They are like piss water

Not really sure about the issue of viscosity vs degree of hydrolysis(DOH), which could be why BAFs are so thin

No idea, they've changed massively in viscosity, smell ,colour. Basically not the same product.. the customer service is shocking too

I like jb, but I can physically prove that what he has just said is nonsense. Why are all the “known anglers and internet stars coming out with such rubbish statements at the moment! Do they all feel that they are being left behind?
Some of them are! Very very odd stuff being put out there right now

If I want to add 100g of hydro I will as the corresponding level of solution.

Fun fact 2 of the hydros in the market today are improved greatly for general use with 10% alcohol ( 40 abv vodka for example )

Mozzi ... is the alcohol added, used to solubilize certain peptides, or remove hydrophobic peptides to reduce the bitterness effect caused by the hydrolysis process

What´s the best way of debittering a hydrolysate to improve palatibility ? Is this why JB hinted on excessive doses of hydros, to reduce bitterness of the end product ? That said, is the issue with bitterness judged according to anthropomorphism, or judged according to tank tests, carried out to govern feed intake by carp ? Is degree of bitterness in hydros, something we genuinely need to take into consideration, or just overlook ?

More to thin it out 😂 some just don't penetrate into baits wel enoigh in there completely uncut state. But then I have access to hydros you almost have to scoop as opposed to pour.

With regards to bitterness I do not find it an issue in baits, nor do the carp

And considering how much he obsessed with flavours I'd bet a fair wedge JB isn't one of the more experienced users of hydrolysate by comparison ( as adding too many other liquids adds variables to testing and results ).

I believe that some of what JB says is not backed up by anything other than a hunch at best. In some of his more recent conversations he contradicts himself and backtracks on what he said 10 minutes previously. His thoughts on the use of vitamin and mineral supplements makes little sense.

Don't get me wrong he has learnt a lot about flavours and from what I have seen and used of his flavours they are First Class. I do use one of his flavours now. Also some of his hunches may be right but don't speak of facts when they are not so. I found myself picking out the above issues in some podcasts/youtube stuff so now don't listen to him really to keep my blood pressure down

Problem is, when listening to the doyens, you´d expect that all said has been backed up by years of experience, and not just a hunch If the teacher is feeding you a whole lotta crap, with a straight face, then who do you believe
Are you sure?
