Obviously very new to this site it seems to me that to be able to catch a carp over the 30 lb mark you have to go to one of the big fisheries !!!!!

It's not all about catching big carp of course I get but fished R H waters a couple of times and never seen any one catch a fish including me!!!!! When you put your heart and soul into trying to catch that fish of a life time it seems to me that you simply have to book onto a water in france ???

Every fish is a good fish, and the future of the species.
To catch a Specimen fish of any species, you have to go to a water with them in, that MAY be day ticket, season ticket club or syndicate, or you may get a rarity of a free fishery. (I know a free water that has produced perch over 2lb, contemplating trying it for bigger)

I've caught carp from waters that I wouldn't class as big well known fisheries; 28lb fish from a river you can wade across, 30's from a Lea Valley season ticket venue and a Suffolk reservoir.
I've had other fish over 20lb from club waters, day ticket venues, another reservoir and a free lake.
Every fish is a good fish, and the future of the species.

There are day ticket commercial waters all over the country that hold realistic numbers of 30lb fish and large numbers of smaller fish where if you get the basics right you will catch far more often than not although maybe not the thirties. Getting on a fishery that holds 30lb fish is not a problem.
If you go on a lake that holds a small number of large wily old carp to target you will have many blank sessions.
Stick with it and good luck.

To stand a better chance with known stock numbers maybe, but to have to go to one, no definitely not, chances are your local canal or river has them, and personally I'd get far more satisfaction from one of those fish, each to their own

100% agree I've had a 26.9 out of my town centre stretch of canal and further stretches down got tipped off by a guy who had bait company and is well well known and lives local to me that the one stretch had 3 30 pounders in was literally 5 mins in car from me,fished it that year and had one of them out at 32lb which I never believed I'd catch my pb let alone my first 30 from my local canal

I get what you are saying but I would spin it on its head
I've caught many big carp in my years but now fish “harder” waters just to get anything that is in there and to enjoy the solitude
Stock levels 20-40 fish in 25 acres plus and any fish is a result.
Any fish is welcome and I really don't care how big they are now 20lb or 40lb

RH waters have a huge amount of 30+ Plus fish. The lakes are super pressured don't expect them to be crawling up the line. You still have to fish well to be in with a chance these lakes are rammed all year with the exception of spawning.

This is why I like my canal carping 14 plus miles of canal between locks it's a challenge of finding them when water is always coloured up and a bit of boat traffic during summer,baiting up in the near sides of canal and fishing extremely close in over a pile of bait and then hooking something that might be a fish of a life time,to be honest 4 plus fish a year regardless of size is a good year for me as I fish all through the year.
I've also fished lakes that you can walk round in 10/15 minutes and they look easy but They are far from easy I've done a week on theses waters and blanked then I've had really good sessions when things just switch on,one lake I fish I started using the dna slk last year and got there and a guy said nothing been out for 5 weeks apparently and I ended up with 4 runs landed 2 gives you a nice confidence booster when things happen like this.
Same as the canal one 3 day session I had 5 runs (which is exceptional on this canal) land 3 from 6/7lb and 2 16lb commons other times I've blanked.

No you don't. One Essex club I belong to has 8 waters that all contain carp over 30lb. It's £95 a year, anyone can join and the fish aren't that hard to catch if you know what your doing. Waters aren't that busy either. I've had 7 x 30's from May this year, just doing day sessions, mostly one day per week and a couple of short bashes after work mid week.
