Only worthwhile if you fish zipped up i.e. to clear your brolly / bivvy before you go to sleep.

I have an old Maplin solar charged mozi killer.
Rather than zip up I used a mosquito mesh over the door.
Then as you say turn it on as you get into bed and get rid of any that may be trapped in the bivvy.

I prefer the Aldi or Boyes tennis bat bug zapper rather than the static ones. I prefer to take the "war" to the mozzi rather than wait for it to commit "Hari Kari" in a static zapper and before it does, it may have nobbled me along with its mates.
The lake I fish is that infested with them, sometime after sunset and dark, they come out in droves, so before they do its door closed with the mozzi mesh on. The blighters even come out of the damp ground so its best to have a groundsheet door and have it tight around the bivvy sides. I hate the door closed but, its the only way to avoid them. Even mozzi repellants cannot repel them all, and when the door is down they all sit on the mesh and if you look closely, you can see them sticking there proboscis through the mesh trying to get you.
Once my door is closed, I then go on the hunt for any that may have crept in and zap them with the zapper bug bat.
At times it can be like the Alien film, you know there is one there somewhere in the bivvy, and you have to get it before it gets you.
