Hi all looking for opinions on buying second hand alarms vs brand new
Had the original delkims till 3 years ago when eventually I wrecked them through misuse and braid.
Had a cheap set the last 3 years which have been good but being cheap they have problems and I've snapped the bolt out of one.
Looking to upgrade this year but don't want to spend 550-600 quid on a set that realistically a cheaper set will do.
So do I look at something like Fox MX or mini micron X for 200-250 or spend a little more and buy second hand delkim txi plus or fox ntxrs for maybe 300-350.
I will get the guarantee and know how old the brand new ones are but get a better alarm from the second hand ones but not know there history or problems or age.
Is it risky buying the txi pluses with there history of water ingress or will most of them have been sent back under guarantee.?

Buying anything second hand usually is risky as no or very limited warranty. Someone mentioned daletronics were selling load of fox ntxr on the bay which may come with a warranty, worth a look?

Me personally, I'd be very reluctant to buy second hand electronic stuff, OK for rods and reels, but not alarms. The only thing that would persuade me is (a) if I knew who was selling them or (b) if they were an absolute bargain.
There are plenty of good reasonably priced alarms out there, Fox, JRC, Prologic, etc. And as mentioned, Dalelectronics - they had a set of 3+1 Atts alarms at well below rrp with a 12m warranty a few weeks ago.

Never again! Bought three “as new” Delkims years back and when one of them started playing up I opened it up and it had clearly been for a swim at some point in its life. Also bought a set of “mint” ATTX dongles and again one of them didn't work, opened it up and it had lived most of its life under the sea by the looks of things.
In fact, I very rarely by anything fishing related s/h now as it's obvious my idea of “mint” and everyone else's is clearly very, very different...

I purchased a second hand reel externally in great condition had to get it serviced as the internals had be shafted, some people just don't give a toss.
As for alarms I want a warranty if they manage the first year then they are generally reliable for a decade.

I totally agree with Fred. Unless i knew the seller personally or the seller was a friend of someone I knew, then I'd rather buy something of lesser spec but brand new.
I actually think those mini microns look a decent little alarm for the money.

I bought a set of second hand NTXR's, they were described as mint/new and indeed they were. Ofcourse I couldn't buy them new if I wanted so I waited until I thought I had the right set. With older alarms or even second hand sets its reassuring to know there is the likes of Daletronics around to attend to any issues.

I'm thinking of going back to ntxr alarms there better built than rx plus I think had nothing but problems with the switches on mine not working and the dails not working to

2nd hand set of RX Digitals - still one of the best alarms made - mine have been going strong for 20yrs and I still use them in favour of my new TXi Ds a lot of the time . . .
Best to meet with seller and test fully before you commit to any payment over £100 whatever the tackle item - especially electronics . .

Might be worth hunting around for new , I've just bought a set of 3 X Prologic bat + from Uttings , £20 cheaper than sellers on eBay are asking for a used set ??
