I've just finished rebuilding an old 10ft rod for my 12 year old to use, it belonged to my father in law. I now need a free spool reel to pair it with. Any recommendations please, I'd prefer one made by Daiwa, Okuma, Shimano or possibly Mitchell. Preferably under £50. And smallish to go with the 10ft rod.

A second hand shimano baitrunner would be my choice.
6010 or 8010 sort of size. £50 should get you a decent one - facebook marketplace probably your best bet

I recently bought an Okuma Pulzar 4000 for chub and barbel fishing. I haven't actually used mine yet, but initial impressions are really good. There's a larger model available too. I've got a set of Okuma inc 6000's and have been really impressed by them. For a reasonably priced reel I find it hard to look past Okuma now.

Very similar thoughts here. Not sure what the difference is between the pulzar and longbow but I went for the okuma longbow xt 655 for my 10 ft rods 403 g or 450g depending on which spool you use. Very smooth gears and drag, 5+1 bearings, mine had 5 year warranty for what it's worth. Used them a few times and very happy with them for the price, even the folding wooden handle which I wasn't sure about is growing on me.
Longbows do seem to have gone up in price for some reason though.

Thanks for the response guys. I've have both Shimano and Okuma reels and they're both decent. Might pop down the local tackle shop and have a play with both.
As a side note, I've just noticed Prologic now sell reels, I guess they're branching out a bit. Are these made by Okuma, it's the same company isn't it? Anyone have them or tried them? The C series reel is about £35!! Do they have a 5 year warranty like the Okuma?
