Has anyone stepped away from fishing brands completely and gone into hunting clothing?
I was in an outdoor shop today and was looking at some of the Harkila gear, a notch above even the dearest fishing brands but the quality and technology is a world away from the mass brought and embroided fishing gear we all pay over the odds for anyway.

Think harkila clothing is decent but their footwear is crap hence why it's half price in loads if places. Ridge line is meant to be decent it's worn by a lot of people.

Yes always worth looking at the experts in their various fields if you need or indeed just want the very best. Just be prepared to pay for it. If it's necessary for you then it's worth the expense.

I've never bothered with fishing clothing, not sure it's needed with all the outdoor brands, surplus equipment out there?
Also with our weather is it necessary to spend lots on our clothing?

Yeah, I've got Harkila.
Got a Pro Hunter jacket and trouser set I've had for years. It is good in a hard wearing way, w..nk for waterproofness. The reason it's not that great for waterproofness is the heavy duty Cordura outer layer it's made of once the water repellent coating rubs off, it sucks up water like a sponge and waterlogs the goretex membrane inside the coat. Oh, and the Pro Hunter is as heavy as f..k.
I'd go as far as saying Harkila is for your "poshies" waltzing around and about the countryside looking the part either with a gun under their arms or supping Pimms with their little pinky cocked... 'i say old bean'.
Not too sure about Harkila goretex jackets, and to be honest, that goes for all the highly priced goretex jackets; can't beat a British Army goretex jacket, cheap as chips and does what it's supposed to do. I reckon a proper SAS jacket and an Army goretex jacket will do you proud for years and years.

I use a few Deerhunter items that i have picked up in the sale from Bushwear over the years. (great site worth a mooch around).
Muflon bib and brace has been the stand out item. Great for sitting around in when its v cold.
For waterproofs i always just go back to a thin shell type that stashes away small (fortis marine at the moment)
Never had a problem with Bushwear returns / refunds .

I have spent a lot of winters fishing in open boats, and wouldn't buy anything fishing branded.
Have a look at Offshore sailing gear, diving thermals and REAL (not fashion) mountain gear.
Those gear manufacturers make "life support" clothing, failure in through real extreme conditions costs lives, so manufacturers tend not to skimp on quality or durability.
