What a fantastic bit of kit those dry bags are,as most know they come in all sizes and are so useful ..

I keep a spare set of clothes in bug out,all the time in case I fall in or get soaked ..playing a fish even..anyway the other use I've found is to put my big army dpm survival tarp in one,as they compress down nicely..

I use Snugpak and Exped..both fully waterproof so far..

Anyone else use dry bags ,and what use for them do you have ?

Used dry sacks since I was 16 years old. The army was relentless and constantly drilling into you your kit MUST be waterproof. Kept sleeping bags bone dry over river crossings and weeks of constant rain. Used them in my fishing for spare clothes ever since. In fact I still have the original one for 15 years ago still working perfectly.

Great reply,and especially the sleeping bags .I know some bushcraft guys who get the biggest dry bag and put it in the bergen,and then fill.it up..

Those dpm tarps,are sil coated and a nightmare to fold nicely,I know someone who told me ,ex army like yourself most squaddies just stuff em in bergens side pockets ,but I've got mine in a Exped,large

Seconded for sleeping bags. Had a big Arktis one for about 15 years, absolutely brilliant bit of kit. Was 2nd hand when purchased and has been faultless.

That's given me an idea,I store my sleeping bags ,not compressed,as mine are older bags and don't want to damage loft fibres...anyway I'm now thinking get a xxl or similar dry bag ,loosely put mine in ,nice n dry then into the porter bag straight in

Good thinking...and if it rains setting up,no dramas..Nice dry sleeping bag..

Good for waders too. Especially if you need to put them in your rucksack before they fully dry

My kit has a certain rain longevity what I do care about is a barrow throw over which is a quad bike cover so that and a decent Bivvy is all I feel I need.

Bollox, i thought this thread was about granny porn, my mistake

I bought one from Aldi's years ago and its an excellent piece of kit, usually I use it to keep clothes dry in or my sleeping bag and when I am beach fishing, keep my thermal suit in when walking to where I am going to fish and other bits and pieces dry when its hammering down with rain..

Rather than mess about swapping kit about, I bought two more from Aldi's this year, one for clothes and one for my sleeping bag. What I find is, once I have rolled the dry bag up, I can kneel on it and get all my weight on it, compact it down as much as I can then close it up. Doing this, makes it all more compact than using the compression sacks that I usually use for my sleeping bag and makes more room in the car and barrow.

And when I get home, I just loosen the buckles on them and let the sleeping bag and clothes expand to its normal size.

They are well worth having.
