Being off work ill I've been sat watching numerous, numerous YouTube videos. And the trend I have noticed is what seems to me, to be the worse possible indication set ups possible. This isn't aimed at any company, or any anglers, loads and loads seem to do it.
They fish with a very tight line, a very light indicator pulled to the top, without the line in a rod clip or anything. You see them get takes with the rod top wrapping right round, followed by a single bleep unless the spool starts turning.
Am i missing something here? This spans videos across years and years. Why is this a thing?

Yep. I don't get it either. Even if it's in the clip it takes some force to pull it out before you would get any indication. How are you noticing any liners etc either. Just don't get it.

Maybe if it was massively windy, lots of undertow, big rafts of weed? Obviously I can see from the picture they're fishing a mill pond so not the case here.
I do fish zigs tight though.

They seem to do it in most situations, other than very close in. It just seems they are using the wrong indicator to achieve what they need.
You can still fish a very tight line with a spring indicator or a heavy bobbin and leave a drop.
Having no movement at all just seems nuts. Where exactly is the line supposed to come from for the alarm to move

I suppose if you're using vibe setting on your alarm movement isn't important.
Perhaps the assumption is the fish will move away as in bolt rig or snags, but that's not always the case as we know.
Another option could be fishing to the top of a bar with another bar/weed/something else between you and it, hence keeping the line over it, raised rods would also help there, depends on the height differences I suppose, personally I prefer a drop back option no matter what, personal pref.

I could only think back leading or heavy line paid out and on the bottom with light indicators, but im not a expert

It's looks an excellent way of preventing the Alarm being activated, basic common sense tells you to try and get as much contact with the Roller/Sensor as possible , throw Rain, dew or frost in the situation and your asking to get done.

Also most of the takes you see with this sort of set up sees the rod being pulled off the buzzers 🤷🏻♀️

It's for bow string at range. Might as well fish with no bobbins but at the same time might as well put them on. End of the day who really cares lol.
Edit: At range nothing is pulling any rods off the rests with mono. Possible with braid.

But where does the indication come from with a set up like that. There's no movement at all?
Surely if that's how you need to fish you use a very heavy swinger/bobbin or a springer arm.

totally agree - if the fish cant take line how is there indication, especially with roller type alarms?

Exactly, ideally you use a powerful loaded set up via a Springer (Scorpions are what I use) were the Lead weight is only just capable of holding position, slightest movement and it bolts back towards you – a no mercy method I always use at range or up to Jetty's /Structures.
With that set up shown, they can just kite in an arc without moving a thing - especially in winter when they move so slow.

. . .prob cos it looks 'carpy' for the cameras . . .when they're actually fishing the bobbins are probably all over the place / not even lined up!

I agree there are better ways (heavier bobbins etc). I'm just saying what the set up is used for as you asked. At range you're fishing for single beeps anyway and you will get that with the given set up. I dont think it's a big deal.
