Anyone else been unwell recently with this nasty Cold doing the rounds or Flu and feeling like they have been hit by a bus?

Had something 5 weeks ago, first morning runny nose then a lose of smell and taste an hour later. Thought no great shakes. next morning seering temperature and coughing like no tomorrow. Thought its Covid isolated ordered PCR testing took it. Next day negative result. Spent the next 4 days coughing, wretching and snotting over toilet for hours. On 4th day after spending 4 hours coughing up phlegm, wretching and snotting out spit from 1am to 5am. Called 111 and spoke to Doctor who said don't believe PCR test that are only 85% right. 4 hours later it was if a cloud lifted and it seemed to have cleared, Felt loads better 2 days later fellt like **** and called GP who now diagnosed a severe nasal infection and prescribed antibiotics, she also said it was probably Covid first and then this. All through my Mrs didn't have a sniffle or anything but as i finished my antibiotics she came down with a chest infection and prescribed antibiotics.
Lots of friends have had similar around the same time so someone in our circle was a super spreader
still feels like a cold breeze block around the centre of my chest but it seems to be clearing.

Due to all the masking etc over the last 18 months plus not many of us have had the delights of the usual bad cold / flu which we usually endure. So we usually have some immunity from having them the year before.
Now folk have stopped masking, social distancing, washing their hands etc, it's no wonder more are getting them this time around, they are respiratory illnesses so all fairly similar.
I guess like all things our immune system decides how bad we get it - some less than others, some worse...
In our household we all had a sore throat cough for a few days but it was very mild.

Mine started off with my shoulders aching at work around 6pm Tuesday. I got home just after 10pm and my whole body was aching like I had been beaten up. Had the worse nights sleep ever and woke the wednesday morning with a temp of 38.5. Spent the next 2 days in bed absolutely freezing with serious shivering. Yesterday morning my fever went, temp dropped back to normal and was left with muscle ache and the mother of all headaches which cleared as the day went on so thought I was going to feel better today only to wake up feeling worse than I did on day 1 but without the fever but this has been replaced with a chesty cough.......fecking lockdown........

I caught norovirus in the UK four days before I left for Brazil Wayne. Just had a bit of a tummy ache at first... Then I got to Brazil where the daily temps are like 32-34 degrees. The virus went absolutely crazy inside me. I was so ill I thought I was dying. For the first ten days I was here I was so sick everyday. Did not eat a solitary thing for 12 days. Could not leave the apartment for 12 days.
Never been that ill in my entire life. I'm sure it's connected to lock down etc & lower immunity than normal.

I think the thing to remember Wayne is that a couple of years ago we would get a nasty cold or the dreaded man flu, get some night nurse down ya neck and wrap up for the duration. HOWEVER, it has been reported that this NEW Influenza, CV or whatever you want to label it is knocking a few for six. Thats the trouble with these Influenzas they can change a little or be manipulated using gain of function & manipulate it to make them this way.
This winter will be a massive EYE OPENER for many I fear.

Very rarely get colds but since having the booster jab 12 days ago I had aching shoulder for the first 2 days and never experienced such cold symptoms ever, in that I've aching back, legs, arms, sore throat ‘constantly sore' and the rubbish being brought up i could have half filled a bucket.
Had Astra veneca first two jabs with no side effects and the Pfizer for the booster and since then I've never felt so unwell in all my life.

That's worth knowing.
I just got my text invite for my booster. Same as you, I had astra 1st 2 jabs with no side effects at all. If I can opt for the same again I might take that route.
As for Wayne and his cold - get a flu jab you moaning git 😉

I'm 46 Mal, so ain't getting no flu jab........
I'm still rough though.........got a chest infection, inflamed sinuses which is bloody painful and now no taste or smell........

I had Astra first two absolutely fine.
Booster was Moderna felt a little jaded the next two days, other half had the same regime and she was absolutely fine. I think the rationale behind the booster being different is it gives better protection.
Some folk I know have been more unwell after the boosters for a day or two though all completely fine.
Anything for a nice family Xmas this year be good to see the grandkids 🤞
