Hi , I'm looking for some advice from someone with a bit of experience with x boats and fish finders . Iv owned a bait boat in the past but have only used it a handful of times. On a recent french trip a saw the x boat in action and couldn't believe how far bait boats had come . Im not interested in cameras and things , I just want a good reliable boat with a detailed fish finder . The fish finder needs to be able to identify weed and also I want it to be able to be used in shallow water where needed . What would you guys recommend?
Is gps needed to be able to send the boat back to the same spots ?
What is the actual function of x pilot ?
As you can tell it's not something I know I great deal about
Hopefully someone can offer some friendly advice.

As for the echo question the toslon it's just a average echo .If you want the best get a boat with the raymarine fitted especially if you want to identify weed and have it work in shallow water .The downscan on it makes it impossible to accidently drop in weed its fantastic and in a different league to the tolson640 I had

Thank you for your input . From the information I can gather it does seem like the ray marine is a superior fish finder .

Joe baitboats (facebook) will fit Raymarine to a new X boat. I think (not 100% sure) he will give you 12 months warranty vs 24 for a new one not modified/ factory fitted with eg TF740

gps wise, I didn't bother getting it on my rt4. I like clipping up and sending it out in the boat while in the clip. Its mega accurate. The only thing I miss with no gps / autopilot is the auto return function.

I've just got the raymarine fitted to my Rt4 and it's brilliant
Like below ref the autopilot I haven't got it on mine a couple of lads had it on there boats and it was pretty useful especially when it was foggy and you couldn't see more than 10ft in front of you.
I shall wait until after Xmas wether I get the autopilot or not

I don't like the thought of needing to take a tablet too which seems to be the case with the raymarine ?
It sounds like the raymarine is a better fish finder but the toslon is easier to setup/use ?

Get Raymarine Pro 5 with Toslon X pilot then - Joe does that too.

Don't know where you heard the Raymarine wasn't easy to set up. Just connect via WiFi in your settings with your device, be that phone or tablet, enter the sonar's password that it comes with, then just click on the app and it just works. You can decide what type of sonar your want displayed, like chirp view or split screen view. It's a very, very easy system to use.
There are many other makers of very good sonar's out there, Garmin for instance has an amazing system called Panoptix. Watch the videos on it, it's a mind blower.

It's the 740 toslon I have been looking at , anybody got any experience with these ?
I use the TF750 which is almost identical.
It connects to the boat instantly.
It has GPS with 500 spots (more than you will ever need unless you index them with descriptions separately). As with all GPS on boats its accurate to a couple of metres. if you are dropping into holes in weed then it will not be accurate enough and you will need to use either a winchcam for pinpoint accuracy or go back to clipping up or marking the line and using a bankside marker which all work. (I use a Stealth Cam and can drop into tiny holes in weed).
It has a Home function which returns the boat to a predefined point - possibly the most useful function ever for a baitboat imo.
You can rename and renumber any Waypoints you have saved so they can be kept together with others from the same water say. You don't get a long name to edit but its enough. If you want to keep more details then use Keep on your phone. One thing - the nav button on the Toslon base is very sensitive and will annoy you for a bit at first (also the alphabet has an interesting error which you will no doubt find).
You can adjust the sensitivity of the sonar, change the colour scheme etc and speed of scan (well you can on the 750).
The range is totally adequate I have found.
I have to say that the sonar is not Raymarine quality but I find it totally adequate (been using Sonar in real and bait boats for over 30 years).
