I recently purchased a set of 6000t's and since buying them I'm for ever seeing adverts for them second hand saying 'normal paint chips'.
My question is, are they particularly prone to paint chipping or are people not looking after them. I've got images of getting them out one day and they will just be covered in paint chips for no reason.

I have 5000t's & 6000t's both sets over ten years old, live in padded rod holdalls and are used most weekends I can honestly say neither sets have paint chips. It's how they are handled rather than the paint prone to chipping.

On the odd,or rare occasion I fish a fairly busy water,I watch how people look after the fish and their tackle..
The amount of times I have seen nice rods n reels literally chucked on the floor after landing a fish and or dragging the rod on the deck in haste to the mat..
All they have to do is,not panic,put the rod on the sticks ,or pod and open the bail arm to release the line,it's easy,I bet that's why some people have damaged gear or bought reels chipped,
Just a lack of care and forethought to the landing process..
Or gear being mishandled in transit,honestly I have never significantly damaged any kit I use..I'm careful..
Everyone has seen pics on ebay of rods for sale,they might be nice,but how many pics do you see of multiple sets ,with the ferrule on concrete etc,would I consider buying those..no,potential lack of care and preparedness..

exactly what I though, I'm extremely careful with all my equipment so have nothing to fear, it just makes me laugh that all the adverts state, 'with the usual paint chips'. i was just wondering if there was an inherent issue with the paint work.

I treat my gear like ****
The best thing about tournies is you can hammer them and they keep going. That's why so many are covered in chips. They're indestructible

I've never had a set, wonder what tha actual bodies are made of,guessing aluminium?..I don't know..

Most people buy them because they think they look like terry hearn. Not sure many people buy them and use and abuse them, which always seems to be an excuse for having them, cause lets be honest, they arent nice to use.
Pretty sure the bodies are plastic though, if thats what you are talking about. They dont sound like aluminium when you tap them.

Just had a look. The rotors are definitely metal. Im pretty sure the actual body is some sort of plastic

The paint does flake and chip on these over time. Guessing that sort of shiny enamel finish is why. Even if you look after your reels they will end up with some sort of black spots where main paint finish has flaked off. That's why some have few marks and some have loads, depends on keeper.

Just given mine a once over and no chips whatsoever, and they're easily ten years old.
