Hi,

This maybe a silly question but I'm going to ask anyway.

I have decided to take up carp fishing & looking at going to a fishery near me, I have checked the fisheries rules & noticed that 1 rule is:

'Barbless hooks only, maximum size 4'

Obviously I know what a barbless hook is but what I want to check is when it says 'maximum size 4' does this mean you cant use any hook bigger than a size 4 so a size 2 for example or does it mean that no hook size smaller than a size 4 should be used i.e. a size 6-8 etc.

I'm taking the rule as I cant use a bigger hook size than a 4 but It would be great if someone could let me know if my thinking is correct or not.

You're right, no bigger than a size 4.

Not all hooks are the same size. A 4 from one manufacturer may be the same size as a 6 or 2 from others.

That's very true. It's a rule that's hard to properly enforce for that reason - also you could use a size 2 and show them an empty size 4 packet Same deal with waters that ask you to use a minimum breaking strain line.
