I'm off to isle of wight next week for a couple of weeks work.
It seems like there's very limited fishing on the island but I found forest pond fishery and fancied a few nights on there instead of being stuck in the hotel.
I wondered if anyone on here has been there before or if there are any local anglers that fish there?
Just looking for a few pointers as I'll only be fishing from 7pm to 7am and want to try and make the most of my time I've got on there.

Probably a bit late, but you'll get a bend in the rod at Hale Common, with the chance of a decent / old original.

Cor, I used to fish Hale as a kid, getting the bus from Lake and walk up the track. One pond was a club/Sindy the other day ticket, we used to catch loads on meat and corn on the day ticket 🙂.
What's the score with it now? Still got family in Shanklin and if I get chance to go fishing I normally go to Gunville or Yafford for the day.
Used to be a pond opposite in someone's back garden, used to chase them all around that place never caught a thing

My Grandparents and Aunt n Uncle lived for many years at Ventnor..
Apparently there is some very good fishing on the Isle, I never fished over there,well,a bit off the old Ventnor sea wall there's even course fish in the river..
But,heard about a lovely pool on the cliffs,with some true wildies,or ferals.. long time ago..!
Used to walk up to Black gang Chine ,on my own aged about 9 or 10..

Growing up over there, we mainly fished the piers and beaches for the usual suspects. Then one year they changed the rules to how near to the shore the trawlers could drop their nets and it was like someone flicked the switch over night, so we started hunting for lakes (late 80's/early 90's) - in fact more like mid 80's
A couple of years back I went for a wander with one rod and found one of the ponds we found back then.
It was totally overgrown, I had to push through the bracken to get to the bank, it was.torally covered in pads so wasn't sure if anything was in there. I lowered in a bait and caught one of the residents a few hours later lovely old wild looking common, not big but a very special capture indeed.
Got some smashing fishing memories from growing up, reckon with a few mates we might have the makings of a book 😂

It's been a couple of years since I've been over, but the set up is the same - a day ticket and a syndicate. Loads of small commons and a handful of nice mirrors and I don't think it's heavily fished really. Definitely worth a visit since it's low key and a bit off the beaten track.
You also have Merstone fairly close by - it's run by a club but one of the lakes is a day ticket. I can't remember if you can get a ticket on the bank or if you need to buy one in advance from one of the tackle shops in Newport.
It's a shame that the two really decent open access waters have closed. Rookley is now a watersports venue (probably more money in that than carp fishing) and Combley I think is just a fish farm now, but that had some absolutely belting fish in it, though was a hard water, and extremely weedy; think Pads Lake at it's best (or worst depending on your opinion on weed!).
