For those longer sessions, several days to a week etc, bankside without access to a shop for supplies. I have two 4 day sessions like this planned for later this season. I will have a cooking stove, plenty gas, and fresh water for boiling. No refrigeration possible.

I'm curious as to what sort of meals others prepare for this type of session under these conditions. I guess canned foods, rice, pasta, jarred sauces etc. I'm looking for some culinary inspiration so If anyone has any interesting dishes that can make the chow much more palatable on these longer sessions, post them up please.

Thanks, and yes, i'm bored, very bored!

A good cool box loaded properly is all you need, none of those nasty tinned foods. Anything you can do at home you can do on the bank.

Bulk cook curries, chillies, stews etc. What doesnt get eaten stick in plastic containers or food bags for the freezer. Reheat in your Ridgemonkey on the bank. Serve with a chilled beer.

For longer sessions I buy those long life hiking vacuum sealed meals from Go Outdoors etc that you boil, not the cheapest but all really tasty and you have the boiled water to make a cuppa when heated as well

Half my bait freezer is full of leftover meals etc, got an Igloo Maxcold coolbox to take them fishing in, just need defrosting and chucking in a pan.

As said a good quality coolbox will do you for 4 days. Secret is to open it as little as possible and keep it well hidden in the back of the bivvy to keep as cool as possible. Layer of ice blocks on bottom and on top will keep most things relatively cool.

Good recipe suggestion - Chorizo Ring, sliced into discs, fry in ridge monkey without oil on low temp to get the oil to come out of it, add a sliced onion, little bit of water and some tomato sauce if you have any. mix with cooked pasta cover with parmesan cheese. No refrigeration needed and a solid meal.

Another suggestion is the microwave rice pouches - get the Mexican flavour one and reheat in a ridge monkey with a touch of water until its piping hot, add some precooked chicken and put inside a tortilla wrap with mayo - quick burritos

I'm similar to you... i freeze any left over curries / stews etc and store vacuum packed in my bait freezer....if a 24 / 48hr session i get out in time so it defrosts in time for cooking boil in the bag style......

If on longer sessions i freeze as much food as possible...i make little breakfast bags, couple of sausages /bacon / black pud etc and freeze all in one bag... then take then out the cool bag for defrosting..... i also have steaks etc frozen and in the cool bag....this help keeping everything frozen as long as needed and i have had some items only just starting to thaw out after 3 days in the cool box..... granted this wasn't in the height of summer....if it is rally hot i also take an old towel and keep this wet and put over the top of the cool bag.... as said previous open the cool bag for as little time as you can and keep in the coolest place possible.....

Freeze milk and anything that can be frozen - freeze it..... this alll helps keeping the cool bag / box as cold as possible for as long as possible.

. . .curries / stews and either rice or pasta . . .anything that can made up in a single sauce pan basically.
If I was going for more than 48hrs I'd bring bacon / eggs / bread . . . anything over 24hrs a bottle of nice red wine is essential . .

Tinned corned beef. Eggs. Potatoes made into chips, so easy. Keeps well and bloody good.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I should have pointed out the weather factor, where I live it is likely to be warm, anywhere between 25 and 35 during the day, and between 12 to 18 at night, so hard to keep things like meats fresh for more than a day or two even in a coolbox.

I'll have sausage etc in the cool box, but only good for day one I think, as the cool box is mainly to keep the beers cool on the first day and it will be getting opened regularly. I can't imagine a scenario where a simple cool box would keep meats fresh for 4 days in summer months, unless it was packed with ice blocks and not opened until day 4, even then its a big maybe.

M&S do some nice tinned food, obviously fresh is better and nicer but good to throw a couple in your bag. They have a nice stewed steak, chicken curry and a few others. Steak one is nice with some tinned veg/potatoes and throw it all in a pan. I have this with a baguette normally.
Beans on toast is an easy option for breakfast or those porridge pots.

If you think keeping beer is more important than keeping some nice. Fresh food eatable on a poxy little 4 day trip ?
How do you think some of us do it on a 2 or 3 week trip in 30c plus temps in the middle of no where in France .?
Beer in a bag in the river or lake will keep em cold

A decent cool box with couple of 1.5litre bottles of drinking water frozen replaces silly cool blocks
I invested years ago in a Vacume sealer great for lots of things keeps baits fresh for months and keeps food really fresh you can even vacuumed pack ready cooked food just toss it into a pan of boiling water
Do a bit of googling on vacuumed packing cook food
Are you sure?
