There is generally a lot of negativity on forums and social media so lets have something positive...
It must be said that the Angling Trust has been fantastic in representing angling throughout this ongoing pandemic.
They have consistently made the case to government for angling and the associated industry and issued clear and cosistent advice.
I wasn't a member until this year, but I certainly am now.
All anglers should consider it if they can afford it.

But surely going fishing is a lot safer to maintain a social distance than football,rugby, etc etc
And only today you read about the number of players getting Covid and games being called off

Seriously? We all know that laying in a bivvy eating pot noodles or sitting on a seatbox at a commercial fishery arent actual exercise

have you seen how much s**t the average bivvy bug takes nowadays, pushing that lot on a uneven path around a lake is more exercise than most people get in a week

They get tested twice a week, a lot more than most. I also don't think it should go ahead either but at least they actually get tested

Ok...going fishing is not exactly the top priority for the UK Gov at the moment, and classing it as "exercise" might be a little tenuous during Lockdown 3, but thats up to the politicians making the rules.
There are also benefits to mental health just from being outisde in the fresh air, however you do it.
Regardless, the AT have still done a great job in representing the entire industry (tackle shops, fishery owners etc) and issuing clear consistent advice of what the lockdown/tier rules actually mean for angling.

I get tested twice a week also at work working with other people and if one person gets Covid like rugby,football then the whole of the people working with them have to isolate for 14days

Basic common sence (You would expect!) throw wearing a mask into the equasion when in an enclosed area and hey presto - Covid is stopped in it's tracks.

Well said, 100% agree...
The AT have gone too now far in my opinion and instead of desperately lobbying for fishing to continue in any possible form they should have thrown their weight behind the Government, backed the Lockdown and made sure that fishing was restored as soon as restrictions were lifted, they would have earned much more respect for such a stance. They and indirectly Angling on the whole have come across as nothing but selfish and inconsiderate to the bigger picture.
I know there is very little harm in walking along a river for a couple of hours and that is fine but we all know that there will be those who will end up spoiling it by breaking the rules or not understanding them properly in the first place. It would only be for 6 or 7 weeks for heavens sake, not months like last time.....just wait...

After the last lockdown when we could go fishing again, I went to an invite only lake (not a syndicate or day ticket) every peg on one back was filled with at least 2 people, towards end end there was a family or 2 with a lot of children running up and down, I can't see how that's safe.

I must say I tend to agree with post 11, despite being an avid winter angler.
I hope the AT haven't shot themselves in the foot. Throughout the summer and autumn we've been allowed to fish pretty much unrestricted, with angling classed under recreation and leisure, with no time limits imposed, thus allowing night fishing. It seems that angling has now been reclassified as exercise. When this lockdown is eased, with recreation and leisure allowed again will there still be limits imposed on exercise?

I'm personally disgusted with the AT on this matter. Its nothing short of gathering funds.
The bigger picture is SAFETY
