Popping out for a quick overnighter tonight and can only get there about dusk. Been out of touch with the place for the past 8 weeks, would you get on the end of this wind or fish off the back of it. Lake depths down to about 7ft and some old weed about but not a great deal, on the end of the wind will be some reed lined margins or the back of the wind is old weed bed areas, think it's water shield, thin Lilly type leaves

As a very basic suggestion I would say, if the air temp is about the same, or higher than the water temp get on the end of the wind. If a cold night, fish the back of the wind. If any swims have form from previous winters fish them.

A fella put a deeper around my venue the other day and found fish on the back of the wind in mid water at approx 7ft .so for a short session here I'd say the best chance is on a zig in an area where the fish are located.

This is however on an open gravel pit with little tree cover close to the coast in SE Kent. Your venue might be very different.

Dusk is the best time to get there this time of year. I've found they're most active in that first hour of light and into the night. Have the rods ready to go but don't feel rushed to get them out. Watch and listen and make your decision based on what you see/hear.

Or... do what someone says on a forum that's sat on their sofa and hasn't ever seen the water you're fishing .

From what I have seen over the years, when the conditions are favourable to be on the back wind, people will clamour for those swims, but instead of fishing close in in the sheltered water will proceed to try and cast to the far bank or as far out as possible and even send their boat right across and when its warm, proceed to that side of the pond where the wind is blowing into and fish the opposite bank or as far out as possible.

Sometimes logic goes out of the window for some.

I always find the wind line on the back to be a good area.
Had one yesterday 25lb. Rest of the lake blanked the entire weekend.
I also put 2 kilo of boilie out while others fished singles snarling at me spudding..

Forget the wind in winter. Look for mid depth.

Ended up doing two seperate wet and cold camping trips on the back of the wind fishing up against the weed line, did try zigs on a couple of rods on the second night but nothing, think its about 8 weeks since the lake last did a fish. There were 3 people set up on the wind and had been there for 3 nights without anything so went to the other end of the lake on the back of it to see what happened. Tough going at this time of the year thats for sure
