Hi all,

I'm looking to buy some new carp winter clothing but can't find anything for taller folks like myself, specifically on the trouser side. I'm 6 foot 4 and have an inside leg of 35 inches, but can't seem to find anything more than about 32 inches. That said trying to even find out the inside leg of most fishing trousers online seems to be a challenge as most places only list waist size. What's really odd is that those that I can find seem to imply that whilst the waist increases the length doesn't, meaning manufacturers expect everyone to be the same height. Any recommendations/advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm 5.11 with a 32 inside leg, which is classed as medium length on most trousers, so I would reckon you might need to go 'long' or 'extra long'.

As has been said combat clothing seems to be the longest in leg, although it may be worth having a look at clothing by Hoggs of Fife. They do make good jackets and trousers for the hunting/shooting fraternity, so could be a good punt.

Not a fishing brand but i know a compay fjallraven do unhemmed outdoor trousers which you can tailor to your own length. I use the Vidda Pros for alot of my fishing and hunting. Very well made and have never let me down.

If they are over trousers or bib and brace the crutch is far lower down and as such you will find 32 inch inside leg fine. I'm 6"3 and I have no issues.

Great advice. Thanks all. Think I'll give military a go and if I have no luck there I'll go down the hunting/shooting route.

Have a look at Military 1st website, shed loads of what you're looking for there. Most fishing branded clothing is over-priced crap.

Hi there, I'm 6' 6” so have the same needs as you. I spend a lot of time doing outdoors stuff in addition to fishing so I've been through a fair bit of outdoor kit over the years. Here's what I use for fishing:

Year round:
British army combat trousers or fjallraven Barents pro trousers
Walking boots
Green fleece, British or Dutch army
Regatta waterproof jacket xxl, dark green
British army Goretex Salopettes (called petroleum protective) search up on eBay, they are amazing
If it's too hot for the salopettes I'll just wear normal army goretex over trousers xxl, current issue MTP

Colder weather, I'll just add on:
Neoprene gloves, I think mine are ngt
British army pcs thermal jacket, really, really warm but packs down to nothing
Germans army quilted thermal liner trousers which go under my salopettes
Socks, British army arctic socks, look for the white ones with a red band

All the army stuff comes in nato sizing, find a size chart on line and work out what you need.

So with all that I manage not to be dressed head to toe in camouflage and I never get cold.
Obviously Chuck in in your own choice of hat and buff.

Hope that helps.

Hmm, fjallraven, there not that great. The seams on a pair of £100+ had come undone, especially around the zip area/crutch area. And that idea of waxed trousers? Please.

Granted, fjallraven do look the part, Rizla thin though, more like a summer trouser. I'd say a pair of SAS combats would be better and you can get them in different colours if you have a look about.

Shame you've had that experience with Fjallravens. I've been using them since 2007, all over the world from the Arctic to the Middle East and never had a quality issue.

The Greenland wax you can either add more if you want them more windproof and water repellent or wax it all out at 40 degrees and they become much more breathable.

There's lot to be said for a £10 pair of surplus trousers, they'll perform really well for fishing but if people want a non military looking pair of trousers that come up long then in my personal experience you can't beat a pair of fjallravens. They aren't cheap but you get what you pay for.

I'm sharing what works well for me. Each to their own though.
Are you sure?

This action cannot be undone.

Yes, continue
