I have a set of 5000t reels which I love. However, I struggle a little with range fishing. Would changing to a newer reel ie shimano ultegra or the new emblems see a significant jump in the distance I'm casting (15lb straight through, leader ban)? Or is the improvement in newer reels more related to smoothness and lack of coffee grinder noise, rather than range casting performance? Thoughts? Would changing the worm shaft to a slower oscillation one help, or is it more spool size that helps casts? Cheers Dave

My rods are fast taper, and the waters I fish all have leader bans and minimum line diameter rules, hence I wondered what difference a reel change would make. If it would only be minimal I'll stick with my tournies!
I appreciate technique is important, but just wanted some opinions on 5000t suitability to hit reasonable distance marks

Would like to hit 130/140 with 15lb line straight through . Using 12ft 3.5lb Nash nrxd rods. Don't know if a reel change would help

A friend of mine could put a baited rig 150 yards using an original set of Km challenges and browning cam cads. It was with 9lb slycast and 15lb shock leader mind. This was back some 20 years ago.
I manage casting small PVA Bags 110 yards with my 6k Tourneis and 20lb subline.
For 130 yards I'd seek lessons with either Terry Edmonds or Mark Hutchinson.

Reels don't make much difference at all, slow oscillation shimanos and cross wrap daiwas aren't really adding any distance and you could always get slow oscillation conversions for the 5000t's anyway.
Tip speed and trajectory (technique) and fast recovery (blanks) are all more important than reels imo
