So i'm thinking of switching over from Leadcore and leadfree leaders onto Fluro. I have 3 spare spools which are loaded with Flurocarbon from the previous owner, this has been on the spools for 5-6 years but stored in a dark, dry environment. I believe it is 15lb but not entirely sure. And i am running helicopter for 90% of my fishing and my reels have CM90 12lb loaded on them.
My question is, do you think this line will be ok to be used as a leader (not a shock leader) or would i be best buying a heavier, newer line so it sinks better? Or would you just fish straight through with my mono?

I use rigmorale cam h20 for my flouro leaders... 25lb my choice, but do 20lb and 30lb as well...

Cheers for the suggestions both of you, I'll take a look. What would you use to secure your beads? I've still got float stops which I've used previously but is there a better solution now?

The Gemini fused flouro leaders are really nice. They do various versions depending on what lead set up you prefer.

. . .I use 25lb Camh20 leaders on waters where they're allowed and generally prefer it to leadcore . . bullet proof stuff and really easy to straighten by hand.
As for old 5yr old fluro on reels I would definitely strip them whether they've been stored well or not - your risk but I'm sure it deteriorates quicker than mono - you could risk it but you might be risking the fish of a life time.
Note - first session on new syndicate last week and swopped usual bullet proof jel-e wyre hooklinks to 15lb IQ that had been on a spool in my tackle box for 7yrs+ on the last morning of the session - Simple D rig and the change worked! - however fish kited into some fairly innocuous pads at the back end of the fight . . . .ping. Lead had dropped but hooklink snapped above the hook in the middle of the link . . .lesson learnt.

Cheers for the info. Went and picked up a spool of 30lb trans khaki as it's all the local tackle store had and trying out this no trace system. I'm only using 5ft lengths so straightening is a doddle, just rig puller one end and a twig the other, twig on the floor under my feet and pull like mad.

I've recently been using the Trans Khaki having previously used Seagaur and it seems fine. I just put my foot on the lead when using short lengths like that or when longer I attach the hook to a pegging point on the bivvy, have to be careful though

as long as you get your delivery!!! waited a month, still not delivered had to demand my money back. when i spoke to them all i got was excuses and broken promises. be aware before ordering from them !!!!

Have a look at the avid outline fluoro leader. I've used it on and off for a couple of years now and am really impressed with it.

I use an Albright, with 30lb flouro I find going 4 down and two back with the braid does the job and gives you a smaller knot

I settled on back to back grinner on fluoro to mono, this seemed to work alright but are there any better solutions? Not sure if Albright or mahin would be ok on with mono/fluoro.
Next question, last fish of the session, mirror in the net and looks like a few lifted scales. I'm not sure if this was me but to say I felt bad is an understatement, never had this happen. How can I do my best to prevent this happening again as I want to persist using fluoro over leadcore and lead free?

I use mahin with flouro to mono mate... Have fished like this for years... No issues
Regarding scale lifting on the flouro... I do get it but only very occasionally it does happen unfortunately
