Getting back into carping after a long break = mistake.
Tackle has got lighter, meaner, shorter, slimmer (apart from bedchairs) and generally better looking . . .my current gear is top end 90/00's kit and everything perfectly serviceable . . .however one of the things I'd conveniently forgotten about is gear temptation . . and if I'm being realistic my current rods & reels are poss first on the list.
On this basis what 3/4 rod & reel set up would you recommend, either new or used or combination . . .for £1k max?
Don't want 13ft broom handles / don't want mega light casting reels - just a solid 'all round' set up that casts well, plays fish well and lasts another 20yrs . . .!

Go second hand, you get loads more for your money. I dont even use 3 rods anymore let alone 4 much prefer two. Rods wise anything from free spirit or harrison and you wont go wrong. Free spirit e class gold are good for the money. Daiwa emcast 25's for reels.
The other option and probably the most sensible option is keep what you have and see if you still like it and then upgrade.

If your present kit is perfectly serviceable then perhaps therapy might be the cheaper option? 😀

If its top end keep it , it will be better than the ***** around these days.

What gear have you got? People are making a killing right now selling older kit on eBay.
I would have to agree that if it was top end then it will still be good now, just depends if you fancy something new.

If you have been out 10/15 years or longer it might be worth fishing a few local waters and experiencing modern carping in all its glory before you decide a/ to walk away or b/ to invest your money in a ticket on a water that you can enjoy. If you decide to carry on then get some new gear.
