Evening gents,
I'm in the market for a new Camera, well probably second hand ton be fair. I'm looking to get the best camera and lens for self takes with a budget of £500 hence the second hand bit, ideally if I could spend £300 that would be better but I'm happy to go higher if features dictate.
I'm not new to DSLR's however I have been using a bridge camera in recent years for ease/weight and the flip round screen.
I understand the use of ISO and Apature but I am no pro.
Feature wise I am looking for a good all rounder, I'm not planning on using it with any Macro lens, it's purely self takes, takes for others and the odd sunrise picture.
I have previously used a 35-50mm lens with good results and having a flip round screen is really a must for me.
What are you lot using and can recommend

I use Nikon cameras and would be looking at the D3300 24.2 MP Crop Sensor and get the 35mm prime lens to go with it for less than 500 quid.
Fantastic bit of kit for the money.

I previously had a nikon D5300 and didn't really like it much, no particular reason, just didn't seem to produce great pictures. I now have a sony a6000 - even with the kit lense the pictures it produces are top notch. It's a nice compact piece of kit and the controls are a doddle - the a5100 with the flip screen and the same lense may be a good fit for you?

I use a Nikon D5500 that I bought second hand for £350 or thereabouts. Add a 35mm prime and you're away.
Any of the D5000 range with the 35mm f1.8 would suit your needs perfectly. All have flip screens and built in intervalometers that make self takes a doddle.
You could probably pick up a second hand d5200 and 35mm for not too far north of £300.

I bought a second hand Nikon D5200 last year and have been very happy with it.
Following advice from here i also purchased the 35mm Prime lens which is really great.
Mpb.com are currently advertising a used D5200 (Body only) for £179.
Which would leave plenty in the budget for a 35mm prime lens and more...

recently got a Nikon d5100 + 35mm lens for around £270 all in. Albeit my first foray in to DSLR cameras so I am still getting used to it.

Personally I'd look at something like the 5dmkii/ iii, professional quality camera for around £500 mark. Strap a 50mm 1.4 on it and you've got as good a quality setup for catch shots as you'll ever need. If Nikon is your preference then a body of the same age/ quality should be a similar price.
I use a similar setup, albeit with a 50mm 1.2 l series and have numerous shots in subsurface journals, and other media platforms. I know it's got no flip screen but I've always found them to be a bit useless particularly on any camera that isn't full frame with a 50/35mm lense.

Another vote for the D5000 series here. I bought the D5600 with kit lense and have been really really happy with it so far. I'm getting the 35mm prime soon based on feedback from here.

Why is a camera that is full frame better with a tilty flippy screen?
I owned a 5d mark 2 for a good few years with a 50mm 1.4. Great piece of kit but I don't think any newer, more modern model dslr wouldn't be able to keep up with it, the mark 2 is 12 years old now. Like full frame is great and all but I'd rather have something with modern focus and features. Plus the camera is seriously heavy if you're a mobile angler.

many people get a DSLR or mirrorless . interchangeable lens system and are initially disappointed.
they often blame themselves thinking its a lack of knowledge. but generally its a crappy kit lens.
my camera is probably worth about 200 quid. it was only 500 about 6 years ago. however
i have probably £2000 worth of lens. buy well and they dont even lose value.

I'd agree with mere man, although from what some say the 5D II isn't that great apparently.
I was going to suggest the 6D as it's a pretty decent all-rounder and will cover most bases and is a tad cheaper 2nd hand...like.£500 plus whatever lenses you want to use. You know you can always control something like the 6D or 5D with a smartphone, which in my personal opinion is far better than the screens you have on the back of cameras.

The camera is terrific, simply brilliant in low light, just a shame they keep pumping out new cameras and don't support their older ones long enough. Oh, and Sony smartphone apps have been absolutely junk. The most recent release of their new camera/smartphone app which supersedes PlayMemories is looking promising.

Fairly certain 5d mk 2 and 3 don't have wifi and need a hardware add on to connect to Mobile phones. 6d is a good option if you can find them for this price.
I'm currently using Fuji on an x pro2, amazing camera but not for self takes. Fuji 35mm is hard to beat for apsc cameras. You may find something in their range to suit your needs but in all honesty I'd go dslr like a d5500 like others have said with some decent glass.
