Just wondering peoples thoughts on the types of shows and whether these are feeding fish . I've mostly found that head and shouldering fish are possibly feeding fish where as rolling fish I'm not so sure .

Imo there are numerous reasons but in general I'd agree with you; head/shouldering = on it, flicky/rolling = zigs.

Definitely agree zigs seem to be the one when you see fish "smashing out". Head and shouldering IMO is them cleaning out their gills where they have been filtering the food from the bits the suck up off the bottom or where they are digging in silt i would even base my approach on these types of shows, tighter baiting with smaller bits to keep them grubbing. I have always imagined that proper crashing out is them chasing around small fry or hatches, although someone did tell me once they do it to clear leaches but i feel more confident behind my suspended foam believing the former!

If I see fish head and shouldering over my baited area I start rubbing my hands with glee! The surest sign I know of a feeding fish. It is usually just the head only that comes out and as previously mentioned I am sure it is associated with rinsing silt out of the gills. I have witnessed this sighting immediately followed by bubbling indicating the fish going back down for another chomp. The more splashy shows are not so much feeding in my view, but at least you know you are on fish and a zig could be a way to put one on the bank.

i'd be over there like a shot... the lakes i fish are low stock so that's a sure indication where they are
your more than half way to getting a bite - regardless what they are doing there - they are there...

Thanks everyone . Your findings are pretty much along with mine . I was speaking with a mate recently about the amount of times that I've had fish showing over / around my spots expecting a bite anytime and nothing . Then on the flip side the times I've seen nothing and not expecting anything and off it rattles . That's what makes it so exciting 👍
