I am looking to try some tapered mainline for the first time.
After a bit of looking around I have decided on the Fox Exocet 12lb-35lb line.
Any advice on using it at the start?
I know how to spool it up ok but I have seen people mention cutting it down a bit
and also giving it a stretch over the tapered section.
Any thoughts??

I've been using it and its ok.
I've cut it down a bit but never stretched it....
Doesn't sink great though IMO

Don't bother mate. That stuff is garbage. Pony in weed as it chaffs like crazy. You might cast like a hero with it but after using it for a while it's scary crap. Was holding a fish off a snag with moderate pressure and it stretched so badly I could snap it like cotton with ease in my hand. Reckon the 12lb stuff was breaking at around 4/5lb?
Get a spool of esp xt at the required diameter and get a spool of Korda tapered leaders. You get 5 leaders and they're pretty decent, though I've not used them long enough to say they're the nuts.

Its great stuff. Fox trans khaki.

Even a bombproof Palomar would snap and that's doubled over 35lb line... ended up using Syncro XT and ESP tapered leaders. I heard Korda are bringing out a new tapered line and those that have used it before release rate it

Used it for a season and no problems, never had any probs with knots or chaffing. No longer need it as a change of venue didn't need such big chucks.

I the fox exocet tapered mainline 35-15 and the korda tapered mainline 40-12 on my reels. Overall I think I prefer the korda simply because I've had a couple of massive wind knots with the fox line. Could just be luck, but its not happened on the korda spools.
Cutting down the leader is only necessary if you absolutely need to get a few extra yards but stretching it before use is essential in my view to prevent curls & coils etc.
Just another thought, the fox stuff seems just a little more prone to gathering muck & algae on the line than the korda. I hate this because it stands out like a bloody beacon if you look at from in the water (mask & snorkel required ).

As mentioned I have never used them before and could only find 3 different
makes.
Ridgemonkey, Korda and Fox.
Has to be tapered mainline as no leaders allowed.
I wish Berkley done a tapered line. I love the CM90.

A quick search revealed two other ones. Tronixpro and Asso. might be worth a look.

If there is no leader ban on your water then I'd always opt for a flurocarbon leader and something like 10lb touchdown for range fishing. It sinks pretty well and has a little more abrasian resistance over the fox line.
