Cant decide. Used to have the emblem years ago and couldnt fault it but the shimano looks good. Always been a daiwa man so swaying towards the emblem again.

The Emblem spod is a proper work horse, but because of that I found it hard work, when spodding lots of bait it's quite tiring to use compared to the Shimano

Regular question on here. Both have loyal followers and both are highly regarded. I have the Emblem and see no reason to change. Lot of people have the Shimano and would say the same. I originally decided on the Emblem because of the castlock feature.

I have the same opinion, The daiwa reel is massive, the bail arm has a button to press to get it into the optimum position to cast and its absolutely spot on for putting out 10kilo of mix a long way out with big casts etc. If you are just flicking a mini spomb 30 yards its a chore, its heavy and clunky. I have been using a old emcast for smaller distance for the last few years . horses for courses again, no doubt some time in the future the manufacturers will develop a new breed of reels for short distance spodding.

I wondered the same, i have used my emblem spod for years now longish and short distances, i think for around 8 years with no issues what so ever, i did have it serviced once a couple of years ago and all it needed was a nylon bush.

personally i'd go with the daiwa as they are proper workhorses and nigh on indestructable. The slow oscillation on the shimano can also cause more issues when using ultra fine braids so the emblem is in my opinion the better choice
