I've 3 sets of rods with minimas and my bigger rods with kigan just because I may use braid with those rods in the future . Minimas are extremely light and bomb proof with no ceramic to crack or fall out. I've never found a negative using minimas

Got them on my Free spirit er's and like what's been said there excellent,a set of minimas weight the same as one 50mm Kigan so I've been told,the rod builder Roger Hurst reckons the tournament casters are using them now

- Hi-s 2.5lb
-Hi-s 3.5lb
-Hi-s 200's
-Torrix 3.25lb
-Harrison 1.75lb specialists
All my rods have had them swapped over to Minima 4's. They have transformed the rods
into precision weapons which are a pleasure to use and hold. Without the extra weight they
feel completely different and more of an extension of the arm. Highly recommended....

That's really interesting
I know the rings can have a massive effect and feel on a rods action. The HiS in 3 1/2 test with 40s and 50s on feel worlds apart

Take a look at American Tackle Vortex Air guides, these look similar to the Minima's and most rod builders are now fitting these instead..

The thread with photos seems to have vanished, but I wore a groove in about 5 minimas with braid.
Also snapped a few on my spinning rod.
They're ok light or medium duty frames and were cheap enough to replace if damaged, pretty sure they went up in price.. maybe they are giving Tom @ Cotswold Rods royalties now

Agreed I wouldn't use them with braid . No issues with mono though

didnt minimas always need a ceramic tip ring instead of minima tip due to you wearing them out

Had the tip rings fitted on my last set of carp rods, used them for 4 years with mono and they never grooved.
As already said it seems to be more of an issue when using braid.

Tip rings weren't minima, they were just steel and weren't grooved at all. It was the intermediate guides on a SW fly rod, 2 butt rings were 20 & 16mm Fuji Kwag with Alconite liners, again no wear at all.
The liner is such thin steel I actually wore through one to the frame.
To be fair, I wasn't carp fishing

I don't think it was wear so much, more that the line could rub on the sharp edge of the tip liner when the line was at an acute angle. I had one rod with a minima tip but Swapped it when I noticed this

I was worried about this when I first had mine built but I stuck with them and never had any issues at all...

I've just rebuilt a mk1 scope for a chap due to the butt section pulling right out anyhow the minimas have started to groove on a few of the top tip section rings , this chap only surface fishes with light monos and to be fair he has caught an awful lot of fish in the 5 or so years he's had it but none the less minimas do groove with mono eventually unfortunately.

I may not have changed it on another rod, but it's a light Avon style rod I use with a pin regularly, often with braid but also regularly with 3-6lb mono. The way I cast with a pin I'm putting tension on the line at a very acute angle, I felt it was only a matter of time before it caused a problem.
I think in a general fishing sense, when the line is under tension it isn't going to contact that edge
