I realise i may be asking a lot but can any of the retractable rod designs or shorter 10ft rods be a genuine all rounder?
I have a heck of a long walk to a couple of smaller lakes that I would like to target the Tench and Bream, however I would also like this rod to be handle carp to mid 20's (very slim chance of a 30+) . I only use light leads (2oz max) and I dont cast miles .... In my mind, the ideal rod would cover 2lb to 3lb test curve. (its a lot to ask I know).
A 10ft retractable design would be my preference but will also consider 10ft non-retractable

I did wonder whether it would come down to a 2.25lb or 2.75lb rod .... its whichever test curve covers the broader spectrum and whether that one is versatile enough to cover my wide requirements.

I use a set of 10ft 3.25lbs Sonik Xtractors.
Great little rod for the money.
They come in various testcurves in lenghts between 6 and 10ft and with cork or duplon handles.

I only have Scopes 10' 2.75lb now, got rid of my 12' set up. I don't fish larger than about 7 acres, they do everything I need.

Would you say the action of the 2.75lb Scopes is soft enough for circa 6-10lb fish?

They do a 9ft 2.75 as well.

I've had 10ft 2.75lb scopes in the past and yes is soft enough playing smaller carp on them but they no longer make them in the newer range of scopes can only get the 2.75lb tc in the discontinued mk1 or mk2 version

As said, yes definitely a nice action for small fish too, and had fish into their 30's no problem (still waiting for my UK 40 lol) Mine are the Mk2 version, didn't realise they stopped making them, stupid if you ask me. I've got a 10' 1.75 as well for fun fishing while away in the caravan. I gather they are hard to get now.

It is quite frustrating that everyone thinks we want 3lb+ test curves

Think you can get the scope in 2.25 cork still, that's one option.
The format of it is a PITA but the Harrison 11' Avon 4 piece is possibly my favourite rod. Had loads on mine, carp from 3lb to over 30lb, chub, barbel, roach... small sharks
I'd love to find a really good travel 9' 1.75, Best option appears to be having Kev baines make one. The Harrison 3pc 2lb is another but again, not as simple to transport/set up as a scope or regular 2pc

The 9ft 2.25tc scope will do what you want, dispite what some say I've had no issues with my scopes and think they are great rods.

I would have a look at the daiwa powermesh 9ft 2.75 lovely little rod, used it last year and would recommend them

Maybe have a look at telescopic rods, might be something out there that suits your needs?
